Leopold space bar shine
« on: Sat, 22 October 2011, 08:25:35 »
I have had my Leopold for a couple of months now and just started to notice that the space bar is starting to shine, has any noticed this in such a short period of time?  Is there anyway to fix this?

Sandblast it, get a new spacebar, shine the rest of the spacebar

Based on how much oil your fingers have, the keycaps can be shiny as quick as a month. My Filco spacebar is shiny after 8 months of use.

You can always replace it with another Space keycap. Or use a sand paper.

The shiny keycaps will reappear again in due course.

That's the main reason the new full 104 keycaps are sold to us with 1/3 the keyboard price.

I also find shiny spacebars annoying that is why I was asking. I think that it might be time to buy a keyboard, one that I don't have to buy a special spacebar for.

Perhaps you can become a material scientist and come up with some cheap and super tough plastic material. We will all thank you for that.

you can also use one of those magic erasers to try to get rid of the shine...

Here is mmmty's thread on what he did : http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?20243-It-s-magic&highlight=magic+eraser

I've tried it also and seems to work but it also probably depends on how shinny it is.
