Onto my second keyboard

I have been using the Filco Majestouch 2 TKL Browns for the past couple months and I love it. I replaced the stock key caps for some engraved PBT. I love the feel of it, and I don't regret buying it at all.

Now I want to try a second keyboard, but I am having a little trouble deciding on which switch I want. The two I'm looking at are blue and red.

My fear is that the browns are too similar to the reds and they will not be appreciated as much as a new keyboard with blues and the clicking noise. I like the light force I have to use to register my keystrokes on the browns, and I think that will carry over to the reds.

There is also the talk about tactile vs linear. I haven't had enough experiences with dealing with linear, because I have never actually used one before. I have browns, so they are tactile, but they don't have the clicks that the blue switches have.

What would you recommend getting as a second keyboard? I don't mind the noise of the blue switches, as I am using this second keyboard at home.

If you are really evenly split then perhaps let the fact that Blues are slightly cheaper as a rule be the straw that tips the scales in that direction.

I reckon you will end up getting the 'other' of Blue/Red (based on whatever you do choose for your 2nd board) for your third board so don't agonise too much over this one. Flip a coin if you get really stuck.

how about trying out the switches you want by buying a reasonable priced keyboard. either used or some of the cheap ones.

edit: in germany there are cheap Cherry g80-3000 for around 50 bucks. More affordable than another filco for 150. Just as an example.

Try a radically different switch from your usual brown. I mean IBM model M for buckling spring, or a Topre if you can afford it.

Stick with the browns you have and run while you can!

If you do want to get another switch type though I would go for reds just because I'd say they are more interesting to experience than blues after trying browns. To me, blues just feel too heavy now, though I love the clicky noise. Reds feel great, might be awesome if you just want to use them for gaming, but for typing I really miss the tactile feedback.
