O-rings in Canada. Where can I find some?
« on: Wed, 09 November 2011, 15:26:54 »
I'm looking for either Buna N or Silicone o-rings with a 40A or 50A durometer.  Either 5mm ID x 1.5mm thick,  or 3/16'' ID x 5/16'' OD x 1/16'' thick.

I can't find any in my city or online in Canada.  One place in Ontario wanted $.30 per ring, and that's madness.  Mcmaster-Carr won't ship to me in Canada.

Anybody know where I can get some O-rings? Thanks a lot!

What material and size are they?
And FYI to any posters, I'm looking for at least 600-700 o-rings.

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-accessories-2/cherry-mx-rubber-switch-dampeners.html

Some more detailed info there.  I just ordered a couple of sets of 125 which should arrive any day.  Shipping to Canada (Toronto area) for them was about $3.50 I think.  I got the 40A ones.

My O-rings are made of EPDM rubber and available in 40A (red) and 50A (black) hardness. For this purpose, EPDM is superior to nitrile (Buna N) and silicone due to higher tear resistance and longer shelf life.

The size is a little different though. Approximately, 4.75mm ID x 1.75mm thick.

Thanks for the info.  I knew about the your site and o-rings but didn't know the material.  Good to know.

Only thing is I'm looking to buy at least 700 o-rings and can't find them anywhere.  Everyone's prices are crazy and/or they don't ship to Canada.

I think the OP provided 2 different possible sizes, and the 2nd one: 3/16'' ID x 5/16'' OD x 1/16''
matches your 008 o-rings exactly.

Hey rflux, where are you going to use 700 o-rings ?

Yep, those sizes match.  I may end up ordering a few from WASD.

I have a lot of friends that own mechanicals that would like key dampening on their boards.  I am also selling a ton of Ducky keyboards and know a lot of customers want them too.

If you cant find cheap O-Rings locally or online, visit your orthodontist and get a pack of the rubber rings they use for braces, they usually go for ~2$, use 2 on every cap and you'll be fine.

Rastall Nut and Bolt in Sudbury could probably get them. It's a mining town, there's almost nothing they can't get or don't have already.

You can order from WASD direct, shipping was like $3.50 or something to Toronto and it took about 5 days to arrive.

$$$, I thought I could find them cheaper if Rflux decides to sell them here, iirc McMaster-Carr sells the 50A for $9.
