HHKB Pro 2 & Starcraft 2 Discussion and thoughts.
vs

Things I love:
  • Has the perfect Click
  • Love typing on it
  • Looks cooler than anything

Known Problems for me:
    L
  • Ctrl + 7 - 0 impossible for me to use
  • Loss of ~ makes base jumping a little harder
  • Almost impossible to use F keys

I just wanna know how much you guys like your HHKB while starcrafting.  When I got his keyboard it was for just FPS and typing every day all day.  Now I put 15 games a day in SC2 and i'm trying to find better ways to not get lost on the board.   You guys use standard Hotkeys, Grid, or custom?

It's basically impossible to maximize your play with the keyboard. It's a (big) handicap when you use an hhbk playing sc2.

Grid and add secondary hotkeys for 8,9,0 to y,h,n. You'll probably want to make your left meta/alt key to Fn so you can access the function keys from both sides. Some special keys or markers on 4 and 7 may help you find keys more easily.

I can use the F keys fine on my HHKB, had to make the left window key into fn key and took a few weeks to get used to it but I can do it now

I also just noted I always try and keep my pinky on the Ctrl then ring finger on a, middle on s, and pointer on d.  As soon as I get hot in heavy somehow my index drifts to the S and everything else moves over one .  Its so annoying, I absolutely love this keyboard but I'm not sure if I can keep this up. :/

I just find it really easy to get lost on the keyboard while playing, but when playing games like CSS, and typing I'm completely fine.  Just annoying, so are we saying just find a 10keyless for sc2 play?

The real question is: who uses HHKB for serious SC2 laddering.

I've been laddering with my HE0100. It's great, the keyboard is compact with topre switches but I have the CTRL's at normal places and all the F keys (Though F7-12 is stacked on top of F1-F6, I actually like this, I bind my location keys to F1-F6 then I have the keys to assign locations as F7-F12). Also Arrow Keys.
Keyboards: Topre HE0100 | REALFORCE 103UB & 104UB-DK | FILCO Majestouch 2 Ai Cherry MX Blue | CHERRY G84-4101SPAUS

I just picked up a Filco Majestouch Ninja with browns :/.  Now for the long ass wait from amazon. Hopefully it'll help my game.

I seriously think if I learned grid though it would be hella helpful

grid is harder to get used to but it seems to be quite efficient once you nailed it.  good luck!

Yeah I saw your Avatar but I saw your massive sig of keyboards so I didnt' know if you were just suggesting or have experience doing so since others with HHKB aren't laddering with it. I can't seem to get through grid and T is sooo far away :/.  I've got this new keyboard on the way but If I decide to keep the HHKB I'll guess I'll dedicate a week or two to learning grid.

Thanks for the inputs, I was wondering if some of our keyboard elders had found a solution to the HHKB - Starcraft dilemma. Looks like the solution is MOAR KEYBOARDS.

I personally prefer cherry MX blues for Starcraft and MX browns for when I'm with people on skype.

Choc Noppoo Mini Cherry MX Browns

If you really like Topre get a Realforce 87u 55g and you'll be ready for any gaming action or other needs for F keys.
