I've been doing a lot of research for switch types and brands, I've come up with 2 options SteelSeries 6Gv2 or Rosewill RK-9000 Black, My price range is around 100-110$. This is going to be for gaming in World of Warcraft, Rosewill also comes with red switches but I haven't really been able to find any solid info on them. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

if you want reads for cheap Rosewill or Leopold are the only ways to go. You can get TKL leopold also if you prefer TKL that is.

Would go with a red tenkeyless Leopold black or white (red switches) from Elite, shown here: http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rrab
and then I would add some dampening pads that you can buy on the same web site. But, when comparing a black switch and a red they are much different in force. So you need to decide ultimately on that. Black to me is a little too stiff, not impossible, but just a little stiff (especially for typing). Reds are a good middle ground for gaming and typing (at least for most people). If you install the dampening pads they are going to be very loud bottoming out. Good luck!

switch is all preference one only knows if they like it for something if they test it out. Browns are also a common gaming choice and better for most people if you do a fair bit of typing.

You could also go with a Rosewill as their just as solid as any keyboard an regularly have significant discounts. And I wouldnt go with Soft Landing Pads unless your want your switch to feel mushy (firm pads) or just added friction in your keystroke (soft pads). If you do want something to have something to dampen your bottoming out pick up some o-rings, which work and feel amazing. WASD Keyboards currently sells 2 version I recommended the red 40A if you can spare the extra 3$.

Thanks a lot for all the help, I think I'm pretty much set on black switches I got to try out a steelseries at frys and I really liked the feel. I've been looking at Noppoo Mini Mechanical Gaming keyboard Cherry MX Black any opinions on this? I pretty much play MMO's exclusively and having the F keys close to number keys seems really nice for extra binds. I'm sure once I get this ill want to try out red it seems like a never ending cycle but I think black is a safe bet for now.

red are just lighter black most people prefer them as they think black are too heavy. a few problems with the noppo Choc mini you cant replace the keycaps and if you use anything other than windows your going to have some kind of compatibility problem.

I would advise you to not get a mech keyboard. Look at the mess some of us are in :d

I would go with reds and I am saying this purely from a marathon gaming stand point. they wont fatigue during those long raid/instances. Trust me :wink:

I'm curious as to why people dislike black switches so much on here, coming from a gaming background and playing CS 1.6 I've always known them for being the most popular all around for gaming, I also checked classifieds and notice they have a terrible resale value, is that just come from a typing standpoint? I really only type when I'm talking to people on Skype other then that in WoW I pretty much mash buttons 24/7

Black is the heaviest switch, if you migrate from rubber dome, black is fine. But if you try blue or red, you may find that black is too heavy.

From typing standpoint, black put pressure on pinkies, which are smaller than other fingers.

Some people have big hands prefer blacks. Most of us prefer red over black for gaming.

Blacks were only 'popular' because Steelseries used them (they are one of very few 'gaming' peripheral companies) and the average person didn't have any other mechanical switch to compare to (in a store) until some months ago. Team sponserships (players using their sponsers' gear) may also have affected your perception.

That's true most of the people I've seen with them are all sponsored by steelseries, I'm just trying to pick the safest switch for me, I'm sorta running on a tight budget lately so I have to make it count. I don't think I can RMA it and get another color switch from newegg

I would say go red then well their on msale if your not looking for tactile feedback that you would get from a non linear switch. You then also may want to get some o-rings from WASD (I prefer the red 40A ones) to dampen bottoming out. I wont use a cherry MX board for a lengthy period without o-rings.

safest switch for keyboard noob is MX Brown. It is a all rounder. Very well balanced for all sort of purpose from pure typing to gaming.

i would agree with that. Though I have no trouble gaming with blues or clears (reds or topre are preferred though). I do have trouble typing for lengthy peroids with reds though. Only reason I brought up the rosewill with reds is that its on sale.
