Potentially Dead Mechanical Keyboard?
« on: Wed, 16 November 2011, 04:55:54 »
Hey everyone at Geekhack, I recently have purchased a Leopold linear touch with cherry mx red switches. I've been loving the damn thing since I purchased it a month ago, but come yesterday, I  was playing Skyrim and I heard an audible "beep" in my headset (usually the "beep" that is accompanied by the pressing of too many buttons from windows) and my character is stuck running forward and no other key will respond. This "beep" has happened about 3-4 times since I've purchased it a month ago and each time I wouldn't be able to get my keyboard to respond to any kind of keystroke for about 5-10 seconds. Now after yesterday, the keyboard when plugged in will have all three LEDs (caps lock/scroll lock/ num lock) lit up and won't respond to me trying to turning them off. This happens on multiple computers and multiple USB ports. I'm pretty sure from what I've read about my problem is that there is some kind of short in the board, and I have sent an email to EliteKeyboards about this. I would greatly appreciate any input as to what it could be as I'm fairly new to mechanical keyboards and I would love to stop typing on this rubber dome after getting so used to my mechcanical?

Thanks, Mike.

It happens sometimes with my Filco. I just re-plug the keyboard and it works again.

I've heard some thunderous noise up in the sky when the problem happened. I think it's a sign that God displeases with my keyboard.

Any other reasons welcome.

I had the same problem once with the very same keyboard. I think the problem was that there were multiple keyboards connected to the PC during startup. I know that even 10 keyboards should work just fine, but the problem was gone after I left only one keyboard plugged in.
Hope that helps.

Well I did have an absurd amount of things plugged into the back of my computer. I went and unplugged a few things I deemed unnecessary and now, lo and behold the keyboard works again. I am very thankful and am glad I posted this to Geekhack.

Thanks, Mike.
