Info: EK's Leopold TKL boards cost £132 (206$) to have in the UK
« on: Tue, 22 November 2011, 18:13:22 »
Hi! This is more of a FYI thread.
If anyone from the United Kingdom (Or i guess Europe as well) is considering a Leopold keyboard keep in mind the following:

I recently purchased a Leopold board from the elitekeyboards' online store (with price 99$ (~£62) ), and the total cost for my purchase was £132 (206$).

This is because I live in the United Kingdom and what adds to the price are: the shipping fees, customs charges, VAT and Parcel Force handling fee.

I got the keyboard 11 days after I made the order (including weekends so i guess it took 7 working days). The main delay was with the UK customs, according to the online tracking I was following.

I hope this info is helpful.

Thanks

That's pretty close to the cost of getting them into Canada.  Canada was a bit cheaper (about $20 cheaper).

Well I wanted a white keyboard and Cherry MX Red switches. I am okay with the price I paid but I wish I knew about all charges in advance. This is why i made this thread, in case anyone else wants to get a Leopold from the UK.

Always good to know what you're getting into before hand, you should have done the research yourself. ;)  But it's good that you're sharing that info for others to know what they are getting themselves into.

Ya the problem is that you're paying for all the local country import fees and taxes, etc, after it's already been paid for in the US (as EK has to import them as well and pays this at import time and it gets rolled into the main pricing) so you get double-dinged.  Same for us Canucks.  Best if you can find a distributor in country.

I am happy if this info was helpful for at least one person (:

In the meanwhile I dont regret that I got this keyboard. I love the retro white look and it turned out that i am a Cherry MX Red person - I love the smoothness of these switches. It is just so pleasant typing on this, and I have had it only for a day so I am not even used to it yet. I also happen to like the Cherry stabilizers - They feel nicer to bottom out to me and are a lot less noisy than the Filco ones.

Personally I find the Leopold to be of a better build quality and for me its a lovely change from the Filco MX Blue.
