Bin :)

BIN $249

But you can also make offer! Should I frustrate the seller with lowball offers?

Haha, you never know how the seller will respond. He/she might just accept an offer that's not too low.

The funniest description I have ever seen

    Device Type: Computer Keyboard

Identification: IBM part number 13H6705, ID number M311348, designated 'Model M13', manufactured in Mexico by Maxi Switch 1997-06-04

Specifications: 101-key US layout, tactile and 'clicky' buckling spring over membrane keyswitch mechanisms, dual PS/2 interface with fixed cable, Lexmark-introduced 'drainage channel' system to direct spilled liquids out, IBM TrackPoint II pointing stick

Past Life: spent most of its life in the seller's employer's storage closet

Condition at Acquisition: dusty, with partially worn left shift legend, but otherwise excellent

Current Status: in my care, remains in excellent condition

    Modifications Made: TrackPoint cap swaps

    Future Plans: no changes

wow, Did I mention this guy only take credit card?

Is there a particular reason you just quoted my personal website, for a keyboard that is not for sale?

Edit: ouch, the eBay seller copied my page.

Considering that I own the keyboard they listed, I'd like to see them sell it without pissing someone off.

Edit again: they edited the listing :)

Maybe the seller is following this thread. LOL

The extra $50 went to writing a real description. The reason it was "only" $250 earlier was that they felt they could cheap out on a stolen description.

Here's my favourite part:

I hope it doesn't sell. I'm liking the seller less and less as time goes by.

Stealing other people's descriptions, especially without even giving credit is definitely not cool.  This seller is (or at least was) a member here.  He didn't seem to hit it off very well though with other members:

Apparently (and I can provide pictures of his old purchase orders to substantiate what I'm saying), he ended up marking them up by over 600-1000% and selling them on his website. Later found out that theferenc also purchased numerous keyboards from us only to resell them to geekhack users at ridiculous prices.

We carry in stock most if not all types of IBM Model M keyboards, clicky keyboards, ps2, etc. Give us a call, ask for me, or just mention geekhack and we'll automatically lower pricing for you.

Sincerely,

Mac

Go to the link to the thread to see the response by Theferenc and others.  Really strange that he would accuse others of marking up keyboards, when it seems his prices are quite high already, and then he bumps them up even more.  Whatever happened to that GH discount?  Seems to be more of a negative discount.

Same here.

He's got 2 offers already.

$299 is overpriced IMHO.

To be clear: they changed the listing because I asked them to.
I knew they would because I've spoken with this seller in the past and found whoever was answering the eBay messages to be 'reasonable'...

But whatever metric they are using to set their prices is a little 'off', evidently. That post from the past is a little disturbing too; I haven't seen it before now.

In trying to read between the lines about that post, my guess is that the company was being run by the owner and he didn't really have a good handle on what price he should be charging for his keyboards.  As a result, he let many of them go for too cheap.  His son Mac came on-board and researched the prices, but saw what ClickyKeyboards was selling them for and now wants to get those kinds of prices.

ClickyKeyboards marks up their keyboards for a reason, and rightfully so. They provide a service to those who want to buy a keyboard they can trust and don't want to take a chance on eBay.  That or the customer isn't so well informed, or maybe it's because the keyboard is rare or hard to get for them.  I fail to see why Mac got so upset over someone buying his merchandise and marking it up.  That's just good ole free enterprise at work (Ripster, feel free to post your chart again if you want).

Anyways, it seems they went from one extreme to the other.  I kinda think they'll be disappointed with their sales using their new strategy.  Those are my thoughts/conjecture as to what took place.  Don't take it as the honest truth, because I don't know all the facts/details of their business.
