Hi ALL
I just recently got a das keyboard from the new egg deal and i have been using a microsoft ergonomic for the past 6-7 years.  Is the das keyboard a good introductory mechanical keyboard? All i am planning on using this for is report papers and playing video games.  The keyboard position is a lot different than the ergo, but i needed a regular keyboard because the binds for Starcraft 2 didn't work out to well on the ergo.

Which version of Das keyboard are you using? Silent or Normal?

It is probably the cherry blue switches.  Works great for video games and reports.  luv jimmy hendrix.

i bought the das keyboard silent with the brown switches.  I couldn't believe how enjoyable typing a keyboard is until i got this.

In my experience every Cherry switch has a spot where they excel at; Cherry MX Browns are great for RPG gaming, dota style games, and RTS's. The slight bump is a nice thing to have so you don't miss type. Cherry Blues are excellent for typing essays, posting on forums or doing anything that involves lots of typing. Cherry MX blacks are amazing for FPS games. A linear switch is ideal for rapidly running around the map and general fragging :) Cherry MX Reds are also good for FPS games if you like a lighter touch than the black switch. However Cherry MX Reds are best for playing a game called Stepmania. The lightness and linear press are a godsend when doing really hard keyboard only songs. I haven't used any Cherry MX Clears to have a credible opinion, but I am sure it has a strong spot as well.

i can't say much about trying the other switches.  I was going to get a black widow from Dell previously because of a deal last month, but it fell through and the shipping was delayed until February.  I tried the blues at microcenter and i must say their typing is a lot different than the browns.  Looking at the animations, is there like two bumps when typing with a mx blue?  What is the double tapping for FPS that people said mx blues had a problem with?  I used to play competitive CS, but double tapping was usually only necessary on fast twitch games like UT and QUAKE.

I haven't tried blues, but my unicomp is excellent for general typing and programming.

Also, I play "frets on fire" with my CMstorm in Reds, it's great to be able to hit them lightly, though I could use a RD almost as effectively (if it had 6KRO, i'd probbably still use it: it get a pounding)

Browns are a good choice, They make a good all 'rounder for my computer.

I haven't tired one, but there sholudn't be two bumps with the MX blue. I think the reason they have that second sliding piece is for more tactility, especially at and after activation.

o ok..my time testing the mx blues were limited to the in store model so i don't know how it would react hands on.  I'm happy with my browns and hopefully i won't get a keyboard affliction like ya'll here jk :p
