I currently let apartments.  I've made money buying tractor units and selling them for export to Africa.  I've also worked as a stagehand, fabricator, baker, and courier.  I've never had a corporate office job in my life.

I'm faculty at one of the larger engineering universities in the US. In the EECS department, on the CS side.

I'm willing to bet I'd never have an office that nice if I worked in the corporate world. Locally handmade hardwood furniture, a lock on the door, a large J shaped desk which takes up all of one wall, 3 floor to ceiling bookshelves, etc.

It's awesome being in academia, and I would recommend it to anyone who can handle it. Lots of whining, though.

I'm locally known (on my hallway) as the machine gun typist, as I use a 122 key Model F at my workstation.

Photographer and DJ. I only work about 5-6 months of the year, work for myself, set my own schedules and choose my own work. I'm not rich but I'm happy.

Of course. I only know one woman that would be cool with what, where and how I make a living and not take her with. Unfortunately for me she's not into guys much.
