The lightning series 580 has been shown to match the ASUS Matrix when it comes to overclocking stock. Additionally it is only two slots not three like the ASUS cards so it is easier to SLI.
The lightning is much better then the ASUS cards for LN2 and other forms of extreme overclocking. It provides power to the vram via pci-e power connectors not the pci-e slot for better stability and allows overvolting of more then just the gpu. It also has switches which disable cold bug, OCP Unlock, PWM ClockTuner, and V-Switches for more power and stability when cooling is not an issue.
