CHRISTMAS 2011: What did you get???
« on: Sat, 24 December 2011, 08:57:06 »
Christmas phase 1 of 3: I got to open my presents at my dad's house last night.  Turnout was decent, but no keyboards unfortunately.  So here is what I got so far:

  • DSLR Tripod/lens bag kit.  The bag is pretty useless to me since I don't have a DSLR, but the tripod is nice and will work with my camera.
  • DVD of "The Hangover: Part II"  Watched it last night, a surprisingly funny sequel.
  • Coffee mug with one of my photos on it.
  • 2x Canned air.  Always useful.
  • Blank DVDs.
  • Dilbert comics desktop calender. The gift that keeps on giving the whole year.
  • 4x $20 bills.

So what did you get???
tp thread is tp thread
Sometimes it's like he accidentally makes a thread instead of a google search.

I got a tripod that I've been wanting for a while. It's going to be put to a lot of use. Then I got Season 1 and 2 of NCIS to start off my collection (I just completed collecting all 8 seasons of 24) and another shelf/case to store DVDs. And for my inner kid, an R/C helicopter. :D I'd also spoken about wanting to buy some lights for filming some stuff, and so my parents bought me 2 desk lamps. They said they will buy those back so I can put it toward some proper film lights like I'd wanted.

The best Christmas presents are usually those that you give to yourself.

My mom gave me a tie. Not that I ever wear a tie; A pretty noose is still a noose.

I'll give you the shaft in a minute.  Also, I got nothing of course, due to my stubborn insistence on boycotting xmas.  I worship the forgotten gods.  I'll buy myself a few knickknacks in the sales though.

I bought myself a solder station for Xmas (wes51). No more hot irons sitting on the desk.

This year was mostly for my son. Lots of fun gifts including Legos. He's a bit too young but I'll be playing with them tonight.

Temperature adjustable stations are the way to go.

Only too young if they wind up in the mouth then the stomach. Never too old.

I have one. You need a smooth, flat surface for it to suck onto, and it still needs to be reclamped every minute. My kitchen table has got too many scuff marks for it, apparently.

I figured I would drill it to a portable surface...maybe a 12"x18" plywood work surface or something that I can have as soldering area. So it clamps ok? Maybe can get a PanaVise optional set of work holder arms or something if it fits in it.

I can't believe no one has high-fived you for this yet.  I loled!

The wife got me one of those bizarre-looking RAT 7 mice.  Jury is still out on whether I'll keep it or swap it out for another mouse.  I got her an iPad.  Fortunately we're still young enough that we don't have to schedule sexy time.

I also got an Alton Brown cookbook, some clothes, and $15 in prepaid iTunes purchases.  I'm definitely seeing a homebrew tandoor oven in my future...

  • DVD of "The Hangover: Part II"  Watched it last night, a surprisingly funny sequel.

You are easy to please, if you thought Part II was a funny sequel.

On topic:

Hence the word "surprisingly".  I was expecting it to be total crap, instead it was sub-total crap.  Despite the fact that the plot was identical to the first one, it still made me laugh.

Again geting back on topic:

Christmas phase 2 of 3: I had gotten about $100 in cash/gift cards from all of my dad's family.

Christmas phase 3 of 3: A new windshield for my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.  Still needs work, but hopefully it will be back on the road soon.

That was my Christmas.  Not to shabby...

Leatherbound copies of God Bless You Mr. Rosewater (signed prior to Vonnegut's death) and The Martian Chronicles, a book called The Pun Also Rises, another called Smarter By Sunday (basically 52 weekends of assorted knowledge), and a book on appraising leatherbound books. Additionally, a couple black dress shirts and a new belt, and I bought myself a leatherbound copy of the Foundation Trilogy and a bunch of games on Steam.
Risen from the dead for a model F.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.
