Thanks for helping me pick out my first mech keyboard
« on: Wed, 28 December 2011, 07:35:03 »
New user here. I just got my first mechanical keyboard, a Ducky 9008 Shine with blue switches, and I'm loving it. I didn't even know what a mechanical keyboard was until I saw a Newegg special on on a Das Keyboard and wondered why it was so expensive. The extremely informative mechanical keyboard guide on here comes up fairly early in a Google search for mechanical keyboards, as do some of the more lengthy threads on here. It was all very helpful, so thank you to everyone to helped make the guide.

I'm coming from a cheap Logitech K120, which was fine enough, and I certainly like its cheap scissor-switches better than the gummy feel of more expensive rubber dome gaming keyboards, but my new mechanical keyboard just blows me away. It is just SO FUN to use! :)

I'm sure I will be hanging around here for a while, as none of my friends and family seem to understand what the big deal is about my new keyboard. :p

Congrats.

Don't let your family and friends touch your keyboard, suddenly they may understand.

K120 is rubber dome, not ss.

BTW, for some reasons, I hate my Razer BWU more than my Logitech K120

Interesting. I never looked under the keys, but I guess I just assumed they were ss because they felt more (to me) like my ss laptop keyboard than many of the gummy gaming keyboards I have felt.

The BWU was one of the few keyboards I was comparing before making a decision (since it seems to be the most readily available and inexpensive backlit mech keyboard), but there's too much about it I am afraid that I wouldn't like. I was also looking at the Xarmor u9bl, but it's pretty much impossible to find. I'm really happy with the Ducky Shine.

Good for you then. At least you had found something you liked(for the time being)...
