TKL w/reds. CM Quickfire or Leopold?
« on: Mon, 02 January 2012, 18:42:12 »
I always seem to learn something new after I buy something.  So I want to ask here first.  Leopold with reds is on sale right now. Quickfire has to come from PChome. I'm impatient so I don't really want to wait for some new leopolds, and the CM rep said a week or two for the rapidfire in the states. Easier just to order now.  So what do you guys think?

I will replace the keycaps from either board with white side printed pbt's from Qtan. According to this thread Qtan says the space bar will work on a leopold.  Hopefully he's talking about the same keycaps.

So should I just grab the leo?  Its on sale and they are located like 30 miles from me.

I do not own a CM quick, but I do own a Red Leo and I must say that I prefer the overall look of the Leo. Less logo, more of a minimalistic look (less the LEDs).

Leopolds also have a pretty good build quality and I rarely see bad reviews or experiences with them. -And also, I'd prefer to deal with Leo than with PCHome, but that's just my opinion...-

All in all, like I said, I do not own a CM quick, but Leo are well built, not too pricey and after changing the keycaps are really nice to type on.

NOW, about qtan's keycaps, I do not know if they are made to fit the Leo space bars. New models (with both stems type) are now produced and available, but you should check with him directly, since I didn't find a pic on his site that shows the inside of the space bar.

Hoping it helps you out.

Based on your lack of patience it sounds like money grows on trees for you.  If that's the case get the Leo and pick up the CMQ when it becomes available.
Ha actually quite the opposite. I actually just have a little bit right now and was looking to pull the trigger.  Idk why you would say that anyways.  Because I may save 20 bucks if I wait 2 weeks?  20 bucks is worth me not having to wait 2 weeks.  People buying $300 boards and $50 skull keycaps are the ones with money growing on trees.

Thanks.  Your feedback is appreciated. Very good points.  As for the space bar its either going to work or it isn't I guess.  So if it does not then I will get it modded from the guy here when I get a few extra bucks.  Maybe qtan may have a couple different sets I probably should message him first. Thanks again.

I went ahead and ordered the Leopold for my wife, and got the shipping notice the next day, which is today. The $20 off was the kicker. My wife picked reds based on feel, and only the reds were on sale, seemed like it was just meant to be.

From PCHome the Quickfire will cost about the same and take longer to arrive. It's already a few weeks late going on sale in the U.S., so my sense was that they could keep delaying it.

Now, if she'd preferred the blues I'd have for the CMStorm for $72 here (in stock at NCIX Canada, has to be soon at NCIX US, right?):

I would love to see more replies to this with peoples thoughts. I have been in the market for a new cherry mx red board for a bit and have been looking at both the CM Storm QF Rapid or the FC200RR Leo tkl.

Is there anyone out there who owns both that can chime in?

I have only used boards with Costar style stabilizers, is the feeling that much different with the Cherry style stabilizer?

Right now the price difference for me shipped is about $6-7 USD, But the QF board comes with the extra's that the Leo does not. Is it worth the few extra dollars to get the free key puller and extra key caps?

Which key caps are better, the ABS on the QF or the ABS on the Leo?  (I plan in the future to move to side print caps, I prefer blank, but I am not the only one that will use it).

Thanks.  Another thing has is pushing me towards the Leo is I was planning on wrapping or painting the case of the quick fire. I don't really like all the logos.  So the Leo would save me from doing all that.  Screw it I'm just going to get the Leopold.  I emailed them and asked how long the sale would last.  They said they extended it but I don't want to wait too long and miss out.

This is the same reason I have been bouncing back and forth. With the sale the Leo is a little cheaper and sounds to be a solid board.

With the sale the Leo is a little cheaper and sounds to be a solid board, But the appeal of the costar built board is very high as I am previously a Filco fan. I have never used a board with a cherry stabilzer and I am a little worried about keycap replacement if I have too along with the feel of them.

I'll be replacing the keycaps anyways. The Leo's are very solid boards. I was happy with my first one. If the quick fire turns out to be nice and the price holds up it will probably be available at a pretty sweet price down the road on sale.
