first mechanical ducky 1008 vs razer bw
« on: Tue, 03 January 2012, 11:53:49 »
Hello
I know topic #546123 but i really need help.
What I want: blue switches, full size.

I live in Europe(Slovakia) so sadly Rosewill is not an option.

My question is which one from this two is better quality wise.

Razer BW - 72 € from local reseller
Ducky 1008 - 80 € from pchome

Second question is if i will spend so much as these will be the quality jump worth it? (if i buy razer or ducky and after 2 years it will break i rather spend more if it will last 10 years):

Ducky 9008 - 120€ pchome
Das ultimate - 132€ getdigital
Filco Majestouch - 162€ getdigital

Thanks

Any of the more expensive ones are good choices.

I would get the blackwidow over the 1008.  The 9008s are good boards, but there are well documented issues with the 1008.

Look at thekeyboardco since you are in euro land.

A lot of people bash the BW. But a BWU was my first Cherry MX board, and I still use it every once in a while.

I have not had the chance to try the Ducky boards yet, but have heard good things about the 9008's, but not the 1008. I have heard a lot of complaints about the build quality of them.

As for Das, I am typing this from a Pro S silent (MX brown). I love the build quality of the board, but as with the BW, my only complain is the shiny surface.

Filco boards cost more, but if you can swing it at the time, I would suggest it as they are a great board. The build quality is great.

Wow.  I didn't know Filcos were so expensive at GetDigital.

Must be all those taxes to bail out the Irish and Greeks.

I just spit coke all over my Das here. Damn you Rip, now I have to deal with sticky keys till I get it all cleaned.

Please see the appropriate Wiki although if KL ever stops trolling me I'll do a Ripster Keyboard Cleaning Guide.

Oh, I know the cleaning guide very well. I have had to use it a few times after my son decides to play with his sippy cup.

That price is with included shipping.
If i order it from keyboardco it will cost me 169€

So if i will spend 50€ more then which one quality wise: Ducky 9008 or Das(i don`t like glossy).

razer is crap, constantly having to update their firmware which freezes and turns your component into a boat anchor.

I would disagree. I have not had an issue with the firmware on my BWU at all. Only thing that is meh on it is the feel of the keycaps.

I had the BW Ultimate DA2 SE - Had it for 3 days before I sent it back.

Like most razer products I feel they put looks way higher in priority than build quality and quality check.

Cool bright red LEDS yay!, keys that wobbled back and forth, keys that suck and pushed down neighboring keys.  It was not even usable in its out of the box state and I was not willing to pull keys and sand them down to fix a brand new keyboard that cost so much.  I felt a bit cheated, it should be flawless when new and I had no reason to keep it when I can get better keyboards at the same or lesser cost.

Also was not a big fan of its larger width, many people go with TKL just to free up mouse space and have a more ergonomic typing experience.  The BW is even wider than a full size keyboard and I really felt myself struggling to find a balance between keyboard position and mouse space.  For a keyboard that is more or less designed with gaming in mind I feel the extra large size is a flaw in its design.  It should have been TKL + Macro keys instead of full size + macro keys.

Here is my enthusiastic unboxing - http://youtu.be/VmpGA40fwvM
and not but like 5 minutes later here is my sad defect warning video - http://youtu.be/Gl3qgBoW3F4

Realise it's a bit late but the cm storm quick fire seems a good board if you are ordering from pchome.

Yeah the CM Storm is a keyboard I myself am strongly considering getting depending on how much I like my KBC Race when it gets here.
