where can I buy this numpad again?
« on: Wed, 04 January 2012, 01:04:21 »
two years ago, I bought this cheap numpad with black cherry off eBay for $15 from HK, surprisingly the quality is quite good for the price and the key layout is better than most of the more expensive ones IMO because it has space key on the numpad.
In fact I think it is one of the best numpad on the market. Does anyone know where I buy can more of this keypad, because I can't find them on eBay any more.

OK, I think yours is a no name brand, but it looks like a Goldtouch.  search for "Goldtouch numeric keypad" on eBay.  Most of the time the listings are over priced at $50+.  Once in a while you can find a cheaper one.

no it's not Goldtouch. Goldtouch does not have space key which is important to me.

AHK them?

how do you do that without screwing up layout on the main keyboard? Plus I only paid $15 including postage from HK to Australia, Goldtouch is a F**kin' rip off.

IIRC, such keyboard are sending different scancode to the computer(need confirmation). Thus, it may be possible to reprogram only on the numpad part.

Granted, this is probably too expensive if you're only looking for cheap ones but Cherry has something similar: http://www.cherry.de/cid/b2b_compact_keyboards_Keypad_G84-4700.htm

The top row is relegendable, according to the features it's programmable and has Cherry ML switches.

Hey dvorak, this is a nice find! Can you plase tell me 2 things about this numpad:

1. Does it togle numlock on/off automatically with each keypress (for laptop support) and if so is this behavior configurable (can it be turned on/off) ?

2. Do all the keys auto-repeat normally as in a regular keyboard when held down? Asking because some other numpads don't auto-repeat, or they auto-repeat slowly, etc.

Hey sorry about that. At least it was something to start with. You know I felt bad, so I looked on Taobao, and I couldn't find it there either. I did find an old alibaba page with it and said it was made by Konix. Seems they only make rubber key now, even use same model number for it.
Space on a numpad is a very very rare feature. I only found 1 other keypad with space. It was chiclet key with Hello Kitty graphics and pink.
Good luck.

F U. It's not. I have got a Filco numpad and it's not as good as this $15 numpad.

you have no idea how important it is to have space key on the numpad, especially when my Kinesis advantage arrives because the space key is located on the right hand side. That mean if there is a space key on the numpad, I don't need to move between the keyboard and the numpad.

I think it is time to make a programmable numpad with a Teensy controller or AIKON controller.  I can design an acrylic case for it.

All the wiki says is

Generic Numpad - the $15 Ebay Special - Link. If for some reason this link goes dead search for "USB Mechanical Switch Business Grade Keypad Numeric Pad". Appears to no longer be available on Ebay.

asking people on Geekhack why they don't like rubber keypad is like like asking people in Gay bar why they don't like pussies.

Just have to point out that there are plenty of lesbians in a gay bar.

Ah yes, nearly forgot that one... My one current gay friend is a cat lover as well.  As far as I can recall most of the gay friends I've had in the past also had an appreciation for cats.
