help needed from people with Blackwidow

You need to install the drivers for Keys M1 to M5 (macro keys) to be detected.
All software updates for blackwidow keyboards can be found here at Razor site.

I don't really care about the Macro keys, just want to remap the letters around. Can you do that on the Blackwidow without drivers?

If you are using Windows you can just do it manually in the registry or use SharpKeys.

Yes, I own a Razer Blackwidow Normal Edition (non-Illuminated, with Cherry MX Blue switches).
That's the keyboard I use all the time at home.

I thought Razer BW don't had onboard memory to store the configuration?

then you need something with the ability to program the firmware, and that flat out doesn't exist in an off-the-shelf mechanical keyboard today.  if you're feeling adventurous, it is possible to wire a teensy into an existing keyboard, but it takes some effort.  projects like Phantom and Dox address this.

keep your eye open though, i know of one vendor looking to get something to market, but no ETA yet.

interesting about the rapoo... i don't recall hearing about a programmable controller in either of the reviews i read here.  but then you need to use those sacrilegious switches.  i do, however, really like the in-key LED windows.

Rapoo V7 is fully programmable(hardware level) keyboard, just like their V5(which is sort of a Razer BW clone).

I am not very sure on the ability of storing configurations onboard memory part though.

BTW, some ppl claim that those switch are actually quite enjoyable(for those who like cherry black and red). The major down part is the durability which probably caused by poor QC(random broken switches or improper solder contacts).

Hmmm so basically what you are asking is if there is onboard drivers for the Razer Blackwidow pretty much like what Steelseries has with their mouse? Something that you don't have to install but can carry your settings around?

1. I use the Razer blackwidow elite (non-illuminated), and unfortunately it doesn't have such a feature as on-board memory. That will probably cause the cost of this board to blow up in case they had tried to incorporate that.
2. As they said above you don't necessarily have to have razer drivers to remap keys but you have to have the razer drivers to remap the macro keys on the blackwidow. But you mentioned "drivers" in general. Technically if you want to remap anything you'll still need a software whether it be windows itself or autohotkey.
3. Best bet I guess is to find something with cloud storage so even if you can't carry your profiles around within your keyboard you can retrieve it when connected to the network? - not sure about this. Razer is testing some synapse in beta - might want to look at that.
4. Why don't you just carry an external USB flash disk with you containing your needed driver and profiles? You're planning on lugging a heavy blackwidow keyboard around anyway so 2 ounces of added weight shouldn't matter much to you right?

Sorry I am misunderstanding something here I think. You can remap the keys on the razer either with the razer software itself or you can use other remapping software but you cannot save anything on the blackwidow itself as there is no onboard memory.

My simplest suggestion is to just carry a USB flash disk around with an autohotkey script ready made or the installer for the razer software + your profiles. This doesn't work as well as onboard memory but it saves you a lot of cash.
