Anyone with heavy blues?

Black Spring + Blue Stem

My only concern with blue switches is bottoming out too often. I modded one switch and for the tacticility it feels lighter than a black switch, but I can't say how a complete keyboard of these would do in everyday use. Has anyone already tried this?

There seem to be several threads lately asking about this, but noone who has said that they have done a full board using them and what they think of it.

I want to do this. I'm going to sell my Blackwidow and probably do it to a G80-3000. This is only if I can't get green switches.

You could ask Ascaii. He modded a whole G80-3000 to greens some months ago (he even posted picture proof of it, but I dunno which thread that was)

I have only greens on space bars. I think that the increased weight makes them relatively less tactile. If you want a clicky switch with a heavier tactile bump, you should look at the so called "Monterey" switches. (that look like SMK switches but were not made by Monterey or SMK...)

I have and it was nice but not really what I personally would want all the time. I think perhaps I am just too used to the regular switch types, red, blue, brown, black, white. I never really accidently press keys while hovering, however, this would help a little bit if that was an issue for you.

There was an old Chicony board that had imitation cherry switches that were white in stem color but were their knock off of blue cherries. They kicked ass in my opinion and had a stiffer spring and a more satisfying click too  (well for me atleast, and I love blues!) heck I even bought a few of them but unfortunately they have some issues...

1) they have a single key sized backspace
2) the stem although compatible with cherry keycaps they were just a bit different so keys would always be loose if you were to swap them
3) the board is a bit flimsy-ish, many boards are worse, but still.
4) they are no longer being made and finding the right one is difficult since they switched switches from time to time, I guess you would have to look on ebay or similar.
5) they use the old connector (adb? AT?) I just remember getting a whatever-to-PS2 connector. Worked like a charm.
6) keycaps look about as cheap as can be

I still really like the board though and I think I type really fast on it and for some reason I can delete more accurately and quickly on it even though its a small key (that I don't like, LoL).

Just thought I would throw that info out there for those who are really, really bored.

I forgot.. I do also have a board with such switches. They appear to be the same ones as described here.
They actuate at about the same force as (real) Cherry MX Blues: The tactile point is slightly bigger, but not as hard as "Montereys". The spring is shorter. I get the impression that I bottom out on them less often as on real Cherry MX blues.

I agree it would be nice to have heavy blues but i dont think i have to skill to mod the springs or will to buy a black switch board to use for parts.

I just use my BWU for games and my Northgate Omnikey ultraT for typing, they feel like heavy blues but with more of a thud sound than a click i love it with all my heart.

Are complicated white alps ( old ones) as heavy as blues whit a black spring would be ?

I have a Filco Ghetto Green modded keyboard you have mentioned. It is my favorite in my collection. FYI I use it mostly to play SC2 & there is nothing better! But beware, it is a manly keyboard MOD & is much heavier than normal MXblues. I find for very fast APM clicking that SC requires, I have a lot less misclick's using it. Another thing I noticed right away is the the click is much more crisp and the switch resets much quicker.
I'm not a pro-gamer by any means, I'm only a meager diamond player. But I've been playing RTS games ever since you could LAN with "Ages of Empire". I own every kind Cherry MX switch there is. Including a Filco with MXclears I modded myself also. There is thread with a couple pics if you want to check it out. Hope this helps.

These switches would produce a "Ghetto Green" according to the wiki, I posted about a clear spring with a blue stem because in the wiki Ghetto Green was different than a Clear spring and Blue stem.

That is what the entry says, but I don't know if real greens really use that same black spring, otherwise it is just an approximation rather than virtually the same thing like red or black stems and springs are of each other.

I like them a lot but I don't have enough blue stems to do the whole board (at least not yet).
