Suggestion for cheapest brown board for work ?
« on: Sun, 22 January 2012, 19:53:12 »
I've been using my WASD blues for work but I think it's a bit too high pitch for the neighboring office ( directly across a small hallway ).  I love the browns for home and would like to use some at work , but I don't wan to spend much at all on it as it's dusty , often hectic and i eat at my desk while working alot.

Any suggestions on a dirt cheap brown board ?

Think qtan made a nice deal on PLU ML-87s...  course that posits the idea that you can go for a 87key at work.  Otherwise try watching NewEgg for a Rosewill deal.

This is the cheapest 104 key cherry mx brown I've seen in (but I just started looking), (it's on tankguys, I can't link I guess) Ducky 1008 for $80 + shipping, it's overclock.net edition though.
If you don't mind if I tag in, what's a good mx-brown board to get in general? I'm trying to decide between that ducky for about $90, a rosewill for $110, leopold (off elitekeyboards) for about $120 and a WASD v1 for $130 (all shipped). This will be my first mech board, how does the quality compare between these, or do any stand out as best? (Don't want a tkl)

You could roll the dice on a G80-8200 used; sometimes they're browns, sometimes clears.  They're pretty cheap tho, if you're ready to scrub it.  You may also be able to increase productivity with the programmable keys.

(I liked having a dedicated "
" and "
  • " key when I used an 8200 for HTML stuff
  • Overton130, Box Pale Blues.

Ha. These sound pretty cool. The one thing I missed moving to a Majestouch from a G110 was the macro keys. I used them a lot for engineering software and drafting.
I might keep an eye out for a cheap one.
    Current collection:
Filco Majestouch 104-Key, w/ MX Browns
    IBM Model M 52G9700
Leopold FC200R, "white" w/ MX Clears
Ducky DK9008S \'Shining\', white backlit w/ MX Blues
Cherry G80-3494(LCYUS-2), w/ MX Reds for Portal Mod

Not mine, but I\'ve got access to:
Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition, w/ MX Reds
Filco Majestouch 2 \'Ninja\' Tenkeyless, w/ MX Blues
    Leopold FC500R, w/ MX Browns

The compaq sounds like it may be the way to go. I'm perfectly ok with a well used board and it has to be 104key as I am constantly working with IP address' and subnets.  I'm looking for something in the states for the cheapest shipping.

As per the question above. I would highly recommend WASD.  I have 3 of them at the moment and love them. Just can't invest that much into a work one where it's likely to take more abuse.

Well what do you mean by cheap exactly. Do you have a budget or is it just the cheapest possible thing out there? Imo you should open up a WTB in the classified. If uber cheap is what you want then you definitely want to go used.

I'm thinking cheapest possible while still in pretty good condition and presentable at work.  Preferably sub $50.

Sub $50 is tough, have to really camp the classifieds/ebay.

Again you should definitely start a wanted thread. Lots of times people have stuff laying around.
