Just got a filco, sticky spacebar?
« on: Wed, 01 February 2012, 16:28:55 »
I just got a Filco MJ2 from Amazon and for some reason the feel of the keys are not uniform whatsoever...

The letters all free crisp. The modifiers are crisp for the most part (shift, enter) but the backspace is not at all, it feels heavy. The spacebar feels really sticky and seems like it getting stuck (not coming up as fast) and it is extremely heavy compared to the other keys. When i removed the spacebar to check the stabalizers, it isn't backwards or anything but there was a sticky residue on it. I assumed it was either some type of grease to prevent squeaking but since there was so much excess of it I removed it with a tissue. Spacebar still isn't as crisp as the other key. Any idea what it might be?

Maybe its because I'm so use to reds? The Filco with blues I have didn't feel like this at all brand new tho.

Perhaps the spacebar is not really straight? It's a bit bent? Tried with another spacebar?

Maybe this thread will help you out a bit. It's a spacebar issue but on a SteelSeries keyboard.

Useful links, thanks.

Maybe you can help me ripster, its not the spacebar (tried two other ones) its not the metal bar (tried two other ones) so I'm assuming its the clips. It's not the switch. So I'm guessing its the clips, in which case I can't seem to bend them the right way to get this problem fixed? I tried bending them as instructed but its not working. They're definitely holding back the metal part from going up/down properly.

And If I go slow enough the spacebar gets completely stuck. I can replicate the problem easily.
