Wank to buy a TKL blue keyboard, but which one?
« on: Wed, 01 February 2012, 18:40:24 »
I want to make my first mech purchase, and I have narrowed down the switch I want to mx blue, and a TKL or less sized layout. My main question is, is there any noticible build difference between the Leopold and Filco that would be worth the differing price? One auxiliary question is what does the 40% mean when in the title of the ducky 40% mech keyboard?

I think that in case of Filco you are paying extra for the brand.

Had I been in a market for gamer MX Red keyboard, I would take whatever brand, but Blue... Leopold I think.

Where are you located Forin?  If you're in Australia, PC Case Gear is selling the CM Quickfire Rapid Reds for A$99 plus postage.  Good board.

I second the quickfire. If the logos don't bother you. Got mine for $78 shipped from superbiiz. Fees just like my filco.

Just got mine today (from lootbag), and I'm reaaaaally diggin it. Awesome quality, really heavy duty.

Although, the keys do feel a bit stiffer than the other blue boards I've used (Das Keyboard Ult, Razer BlackWidow). But all in all, for the price you can't complain. It's easily as heavy duty and sturdy as my Filco MJ2.

Leopold and Filco used slightly different stabilizers (Cherry style on Leopold, Costar style on Filco). Some people prefer one over the other. This would only effect the oversized keys, basically.

Some people have reported weird perhaps-electrical problems with Leopolds, but not a statistically significant number. Both Filcos & Leopolds suffer from chatter, misaligned keys, and not having PBT keys. . . but the first two problems are very rare :)

Basically, I've never seen anything compelling to say that a Filco is worth $50 more. . . despite owning two of them myself!

I prefer the stabilizers in a filco even though they require some ninja skills
