Clicky keyboard with narrower space bar, available in Europe?
« on: Tue, 07 February 2012, 22:00:05 »
I'm looking for a clicky mechanical keyboard with a narrower space bar.  That's because I press the modifier keys on both sides of the space bar with my thumbs, which is easy on my laptop keyboard, but on standard desktop keyboards with a wider space bar it is less comfortable (Cherry G80-3000, Filco Majestouch, etc., whilst the Unicomp Spacesaver fares better).

I could go for a Japanese layout, but I'd prefer staying with an European layout (7-shaped Enter and narrow left Shift) to keep my future shopping for laptops easy.

My current laptop keyboard is this: http://www.usa-battery.com/images/1000HE%201000%20HE.jpg

The keyboard must have all keys. That means the Cherry G84-4100 is out (it lacks the key to the left of 1).  The Cherry G84-4420 (image here: http://media.digikey.com/Photos/Cherry%20Switch%20Photos/G84-4420.jpg) would fit the bill, but I don't know whether it's clicky (and why the heck did they employed sculpted modifier keys?).

Sorry for not linking images inline, but my browser crashes if I try to.

Thank you and happy typing.

A long space bar... what a waste of space!

7bit layout!

Dunno if they're still accepting orders though.

Thank you for the recommendation.  Besides being late to join the group-buy, the layout I'm after is nothing like those that thread is about.  I have resolved to stick with a layout which mirrors the way laptop keyboards are laid out:
