Searching for a specific keyboard layout - ARROWS & DEL/END/PGDOWN
« on: Thu, 09 February 2012, 22:45:51 »
Hello, this is my first post!

Just recently, my interest in mechanical keyboards was piqued and now I am on the hunt for a specific keyboard layout that I cannot seem to find. As of now, my only methods of searching have been going to Newegg, Amazon, and eBay, typing "mechanical keyboard," and browsing through the selection to see if anything matches my criteria. So far, I have not been able to find any mechanical keyboards with this one difference.

Here is a random picture of an example of what I am looking for..

Normally, there is a large gap between the 4 arrow keys and the DELETE - END - PAGE DOWN area. On this keyboard, and the keyboard I am currently using (non-mech), there is no space. The arrow key pointing UP is just as close to the END button, as would be the H to the Y key. And well, that's it. That is pretty much my only requirement before I am willing to purchase something. I am most likely going with MX brown keys, but I am not 100% on that yet. The main culprit so far has been this absence of finding a keyboard with no gap.

Thanks for any help!

Because of the recent rollback, I had to re-register and re-post this thread.

Before the deletion, this thread received a lot of suggestions (ie. Cherry G80-8200 and Rapoo V7), but none of them were quite what I was looking for. Just to clarify, I'd prefer not going a DIY route, I need the number pad, and I'd like the keyboard to be a subtle color, like black. There may not actually be a mechanical keyboard out there for my exact wants, but please, let me know if you find anything close! I'm still holding out in hopes that there is something suiting.

Thanks.

Meh, I may. I just got a new mouse too, so I'm already having to adjust my technique.

Btw, your frog is mesmerizing.

rapoo is the only mech i've ever seen with it.

just get used to tenkeyless and add a separate numpad for when you need it

TFC and FF.

I don't want to switch, that's why I'm posting here lol. I'm balancing the pros and cons between say the Cherry G80-8200 and a Rosewill Brown, but hoping in the mean time something pops up that is a little more suiting. I can't really consider the Rapoo V7 (even though it is rather nice looking) because I need the 0/Ins button in my gaming config. I never imagined my mechanical keyboard options would be so bleak o_o

Or ESDF. I switched from WASD to ESDF over 10 years ago, when I played lots of Quake 3. I liked having more keys around the movement cluster to configure all weapons to - I didn't use the comparatively far away num row for weapons. (Back then I didn't have a Kinesis Advantage)

Sadly I can't help with the keyboard layout you're looking for, but I remember seing links to some boards prior to the reset.
Keyboard: Kinesis Ergo Advantage (two LF editions with red Cherry switches, one regular with brown switches)
Keyboard layout: basically Colemak, with some remapping to end up with my custom Kinesis Advantage layout
Typing test profiles: typeracer.com / hi-games.net / keybr.com

Or ESDF.

+1 to you good sir. I've switched quite a few friends to ESDF and they never go back. It's where your left hand is when you are typing and if gives you access to more caps. win win.

I don't see the point in ESDF unless you got a board to turn ur left winkey in somethnig else.
