Dell AT102w modernization advice.
« on: Sat, 11 February 2012, 07:31:54 »
I've had my Dell AT102w for a while now but had to replace it due to it looking god awful on my desk, I have some money spare so I'm looking to modernize it as much as possible.
Firstly it has scratches on the top near the logo and on the space bar key pictures below:

I've been told I need some fine sand paper to get these out starting with 220, then 400 and moving to 800 or finer for the finish however a little confirmation on that would be great.

Next I need to paint/colour it as the body/keys are going that horrible beige from age, my idea so far is fully black (gloss if possible however I'm definitely unsure on how to do this) with the Dell Logo white, key-caps blank if possible but not necessary.
I've heard I need to dye the caps using plastic dye (no idea what to get) and the body however, dying the caps I can see being easy with the correct dye but the body is a different story, if it's possible using some spray paint to do the caps & body would be very easy and preferable but I definitely want the glossy/smooth feel not a rough paint texture.

Thanks for any replies, I'm brand new to this so go easy! Thankyou.

XB500. Bass head alert ;o
It is probably cheaper just to buy another one rather than messing with dyes and paint.

there are few AT101W with black alps brand new on ebay, one is in box and wrapped in plastic the other one is just in plastic but both are going for around 50+ with shipping, I'm sure you can get one for 50 including shipping.
