Australian suppliers?
« on: Sun, 12 February 2012, 03:57:39 »
Hey folks.  I'm looking to buy a full-size mechanical keyboard but I'm having trouble finding a supplier here in Australia.  I've narrowed my search down to a couple of boards:

Rosewill RK-9000RE
Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition (yes, I know these are out of production)

I'd be prepared to go to a Majestouch 2 with browns if I absolutely have to, but I would prefer reds.  I've considered the Leopold and the Ducky, but after reading all of the reviews I could find, I think I'd rather go with a better quality board like either the Rosewill or Filco.

Any Aussies here who can direct me to a local supplier for one of these boards?  The only one I could find was AusPcGear, who has the brown switch boards on 'preorder'.

Also try these guys:

http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/products/1838/?page=1

They seem to tbe one of the few places selling Filco's...

Edit: Were these the guys you were talking about??  Sorry if they were... Just did a search for Auspcgear and nothing came up so I presume we're talking about the same place...  Check out page 2.. they have the Multicam full decks in brown available.

You have pccasegear which deals in the Leopolds, topres and the CM Mechanicals. auspcmarket has the filcos and DAS and you have mechkeyboards for the duckys. I have personally brought Leos, Topre and the CM stuff from PCcasegear and they are always excellent to deal with, and all my Filco's I have brought out of auspcmarket and again excellent dealings with them aswell.

Have to say that we're pretty lucky here in Australia... We seem to be able to get things like this a whole lot easier than the guys in Europe.  Got my Topre and CM red's from PCCG.  Mechkeyboard.com are great as well and they don't charge delivery... Got my Filco from Auspcmaket as well...

We seem to have the same board buying history Saviant! lol

Yeah, that's the place.  I'm absolutely not interested in a camo keyboard though.  My colour preference would be just regular black with white lettering.

I agree we do have it good here with the choices of mechanicals, I just ordered a blue cm storm from pccg as I don't have a blue switched keyboard :)

All good. Wrote that reply and realised we were talking about the same place... I can see why people wouldn't want the camo but to be honest, the camo is nicely done.  I was originally cautious about it and took ages deciding but when I got it I was pleasantly surprise how nice it was.  Great board.  They did have the Filco with yellow keycaps but they only stock the TKL version of the board now. Oh there also the Pink Filco!  No? I wonder why....

Just to let you know though... there a lot of Ducky hate in this forum mainly from a handful of guys who had bad experiences with their 1xxx's models who now are hell bent on dissing Ducky.  Their 9xxx series which is their flagship model are fantastic.  Have a quick look anyway...  http://www.mechkeyboards.com/

There's also WASD... You can fully customize your board to the way you like it.  This company has had universal thumbs up from this forum and others.  I'm planning to get my cherry brown board from these guys in the near future... They are on par with Filco's... They use the same Costar stabilisers as Filco which means they most likely come from the same factory!  Check them out... They ship to Australia.

Nice!  Yeah the CM Quickfire's are fantastic. Love my CM red's.  Good bang for your buck the CM's!  Only thing is that the stock keycaps do feel a little cheap compared to the Filco's.  Then again it could just be to do with the red switch lightness...

I wasn't much of a fan of the multicam either, but the new board with no start on the left side and function keys outwayed the hate. In the end I replaced the casing with a standard case and got the multicam on my parents computer.

After about half a day using a TKL Filco with browns, I've come to a couple of conclusions.
First, the browns are nice.....really nice.
Second, the TKL size board lets me put my mouse in a *much* more comfortable spot on the desk.

Consequently, I've ordered a black Majestouch 2 TKL with browns from AusPcMarket (who shipped it in under an hour from when I placed the order!!).
Now waiting very impatiently for my board

Yeah... I'm really liking the look of those... Still to find out if they're changing the type of stabilisers used in their boards or sticking to the Cherry types...

Bugger... I thought with the board looking more like an OEM Costar they might have decided to go down that path...

No biggy, I don't mind cherries... I just prefer Costar's.

My new board arrived yesterday morning.....less than 24hours from placing the order to having it sitting on my desk....awesome!
I must say I'm impressed by how heavily built the thing is.  The Dell board that came with my work computer felt like typing on a soggy dishrag by comparison.
The finish/texture on the keys is also very nice to type on.  I do find myself inadvertently going for the absent numpad, but I'm not doing data entry, so I'm sure that will wear off quickly.
I'm very glad I took the plunge and shelled out for a mech board :biggrin1:

Yeah, I went TKL after using one for a while that morning.  I found I wasn't having to pick the mouse up and move it away from the edge of the keyboard like I was with the fullsize board.

I can see this being the start of yet another obsession...... *sigh*

ahh... Admitting it is the first step my friend.  Give in to it I say... "ONE... OF... US... ONE OF US..."

On a more serious note... My first TKL was also a Filco... Never looked back.  Only full deck I've got in my collection is my Ducky.

Maybe when these start to look a bit worn.  Of course, that would also provide me with the perfect opportunity to just get another board, maybe with red switches.  Purely for comparison sake you understand..... :thumb:
