My first MechKB - Rosewill RK-9000BR

Hola Geekhack!

I've been stalking you all for weeks now disseminating information and trying to decide what keyboard I was going to end up replacing my current membrane KB with (Saitek Eclipse II) and I ended up deciding to go with the Rosewill RK-9000BR (Brown Switches/Filco).

It should arrive in the mail either tomorrow or Wed. so perhaps I can give a review and post it up in the WiKi... but while I'm waiting on it I was wondering if anyone here has any opinion/experience on getting a custom paint job on the top part of the keyboard case (Essentially getting rid of the Rosewill Logo... Extreme? Maybe. Potential Awesome? Potentially.)

I was thinking of taking it down to my local autobody shop and having it shot in some upscale Euro paint (DuPont+Clear)

Maybe a Mercedes Metallic Silver or a Volkswagen Black Magic Pearl or a Volkswagen Tornado Red or something interesting... anyways, I just wondered if anyone here has tried this and if so how has it held up?

Anyways, I just wanted to stop in and say hello and thank you all for the info, and to let you know that you may have started some sort of strange peripheral addiction ;)

Wow...you are coming from the exact keyboard I was using and bought the same keyboard I bought.  I was also thinking about shooting some paint on this thing too, but I got over the silly Rosewill logo.

Thats awesome! :D How are you enjoying yours so far?

And I don't REALLY have a problem with the Rosewill logo, but I thought it might be fun to do something different anyway since I have a pretty good working relationship with the Auto Body shop. Only thing I was worried about was the gloss... not sure if anyone has experience with that. I'll most likely just use it for a while before getting crazy ;)

The board has a much lighter feel than I am accustomed to, but overall it is fun to type on.  When I am not paying attention and just "working", I find that I mistype more on the Rosewill.  I think that's just from the light springs, as I am not the best typist (too many bad habits from my early teens).  But the light springs do not tire my hands the way the Eclipse does.

I've been using Model M/Unicomps for almost 20 years before recently buying the Rosewill.  I had the Eclipse at home because my wife hates the click-clack of the Unicomp.  My Model M is at work.  I found that my hands became tired on the Eclipse if I was on it for more than a few hours.  The cheapo keyboard that I had before had lighter keys, I think.  That's why I went looking for a quieter mechanical design.

That's how I ended up here.  My head was swimming after reading the Wiki, but then I got better after I settled on the Rosewill.  Then I found the Round 4 Group Buy Wiki and my head nearly exploded again.  Ugh...why did I have to find this place....

Funny, I *just* bought a Rosewill RK-9000BR from Newegg.ca earlier this evening http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201042.  I'm really looking forward to it's arrival.  I'll also post some mini review when I get it, the more reviews hit the web, the better off the exposure to mechanical keyboard there will be and who knows maybe 5 years from now mechanical keyboards are common place outside of the enthusiast crowd.

I started here in the beginning of December. I ended up with an rk9000br and re for my first boards. Welcome to the club.

So I just got my keyboard in today, along with the keyboard I got a CM Storm Spawn Claw Grip mouse (OMG does it feel amazing, I don't know how I've lived without it for so long, fits my claw grip perfectly) and a X-Trac Ripper mousepad.

So far, I am in LOVE... but then again I am coming from a membrane keyboard. I just want to keep typing... O_O

This could be a problem guys, now I want more! :D

I'll take pix tomorrow and hopefully give a review at the end of the week!

lol ... this trap is acceptable!

Also as a sidenote: Girlfriend was very unhappy when I started typing on the new keyboard... she's been trying to get me things to quiet down my computer use (Replaced Squeaky chair, moved noise things away from computer area, etc.) ... then I pull out the keyboard and start typing and she looked... un-amused? lol

I think either does the trick.  The difference is more in the feel of the ley landing, as far as I have read.  I tried some on a few keys on my Rosewill using some o-rings I had lying around.  They are just standard o-rings, which are pretty hard.  Definitely took the "whack" out of the key strikes.
