Signature plastics spherical keys thicker then cylindrical??
« on: Sat, 18 February 2012, 21:11:33 »
Forgive me if this is common knowledge or something. But I have some SP doubleshots. An orange geekhack row 4 (esc). And a couple other keys in the same profile from the grab bags, yellow esc etc. They are very thin. I recently ordered a couple keys from their pimpmykeyboard site. Namely the red "panic" and orange "X%&#!". I believe these keys are spherical. They are much thicker then the other keys. My question is it is always like this or did SP do this since they are custom keys. Imo these keys have a very nice feel to them and have got me interested in a spherical set from round 4.

Anyone got any insight on the matter. I checked out the wiki but didn't find an answer.

Yep, SP sphericals are much thicker than cylindricals, so you should definitely order R4/SPH and make my set cheaper.

Nah I like it. I probably think retro is the best. But I like SPH better then all the others. I never liked the Rd.3 look with big centered letters. But after getting a couple of these spherical caps they feel great to type on.

I remember someone mentioned how it happens to be thicker coz the molds they use for those keys are from the old days and they did not bother developing newer molds.

They are nice as far as the thickness goes, but I don't like how the profile sits a lot higher.

I think it would be nice. I prefer the kbc pbt "bigger" profile that these seem like.
