clarification, they are essentially impossible to come by since there were only 12 sold in the US/EU and 2 of those have already been resold to people who i really doubt are going to give them up.

not yet, vortex said there will be a group buy for them when they are ready. he specifically said we will have a group buy for them and i think the pure keyboard

btw, they look nothing like the cases we have right now. they have a much lower profile to them and the switches are more exposed

the vortex ones are a different design but will be easy to buy since they are mass producing them. it's what we're all gonna end up buying.

there's a chance imsto might be able to make another run of the originals as well but who knows.

if i can get my hands on one of the cases for a week or two my buddy can recreate it in solidworks so i can get another batch made myself.

thanks for the info guys, appreciate it.

i really think KBC should look at making these as their standard KCB at what $170? makes sense because we all want one.

Aren't they different sizes? The race has a function row up top. Or is the race just crammed in so they are the same size?

Just checked out the facebook page. Definitely a different look on this new case. Still should help in making the board more solid though.

Wondering if it will weigh as much as this?

After adding the case this keyboard is solid.... I do like the new vortex design since its simple but sure glad I have this one also since I would at this stage choose this design over the new possibly coming out.

What's the thickness of these cases? Or what thickness would people want them might be a better question. No particular reason why I'm asking... or is there?

You might have seen that I was going to be making a Filco metal case in the group buy subforum, but Vortex is making a full CNC'd one whereas I was just planning to make a top half. So instead I think I'm just going to make poker cases, because those are easier for me to make and a lot of people were kind of iffy about Vortex's new poker cases compared to these old ones. I'm going to my friend's metalworking shop this Thursday and I've already taken most measurements of my own plastic poker case. Probably going to make the CAD file today.

Nice! I'd also be awesome if you could look into making cases for the upcoming KBT Race (84 keys...layout very similar to the Noppoo), they'd killers with their LEDs and alu case ;)

Are you planning on selling them here? Any idea on a price range? Will it just be silver aluminum or colored?

I like the previous cases a lot more, not too crazy about the visibility of the pcb, I think it takes away from its purpose of using the strongest metal to protect the keyboard by leaving its vulnerable parts in the open.

I am indeed. Price should be quite a bit better than the $170 or whatever they went for the first time. It will just be silver since he doesn't have the equipment to color it. I've been talking about doing this for so long (well, for the Filco case) and we've always had conflicting time schedules or were just too busy with school. Was planning to do it during winter break but he went out of town for the holidays, at one point his dad that owns the place had a heart attack and his older brother had to take over for a bit, but now it's spring break and we finally both have time.

But anyways, back to my question, how thick is the case of the existing ones, like from the top down view the width of the outer edge. And if I can get that measure, would people want it even thicker or is that about right? To the eye it looks good to me but I know people love their heavy cases so I could make it a bit bigger maybe.

*looks around for a non-metric ruler* Something between 3/16 of an inch and 5/16 of an inch seems about right, maybe 1/4 (4/16) of an inch seems good.

If you're thinking about getting a poker case CNC'ed, then you should try to get your Filco TKL aluminum case finished first haha. A lot of people are looking out for that thread. :whip:

Oh, whoops. When I was looking at the ruler I thought those were 1/8 increments but they were actually 1/16. I'm thinking either 1/8 or 3/16, above that seems a bit big. But yea, will wait to see how big the current one is.

EDIT: Made a post over here to discuss it http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?27565-feedback-Poker-metal-case-construction&p=519695#post519695
