How Do I Remove Smoke Smell From Keycaps?
« on: Tue, 21 February 2012, 14:14:07 »
I just got a set of keys from another member and they have a pretty strong odor of cigarette smoke to them. I'm going to have them sit outside for a while but figured I'd ask here to see if there are some recommended remedies.

(ABS SP doubleshots)

Thanks!

Since it's just caps, try washing it with really hot water with soap. Then wash it again with sodium bicarbonate and let it soak.

I use powdered laundry detergent (Charlie's), Biz or Oxi-Clean, and sometimes washing soda. At least the first two, or all together.

The smell should probably not survive a long soak in that, and an afternoon in the sun is bound to help.

Beyond that, look for an enzyme-based odor eliminator, that is almost always effective, but good ones are hard to find outside of industrial scenarios. United Laboratories makes a great one, #455, but individuals can't buy it direct.

Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."
