What the heck is a % keyboard designation?
« on: Wed, 22 February 2012, 19:01:59 »
I'm referring to the numbers when people refer to a keyboard as being "75%" or "60%".  Is the whole keyboard scaled down to 75% size, like the keys are 75% as big as normal, or is this just referring to the size in relation to a full size keyboard (so, something like a tenkeyless would be 80% as big as a normal board, and a 75% or 60% compact board would be similarly smaller)?  Thanks.

Really? That is pretty weird.  Why would they call it 75% instead of 71-key or something like that? Ugh, you are right to not try to do the math.

Thanks for the response. (Heads, it wasn't in your wiki when I searched for "75%"...)

Cool !

So I can just start calling my 122-key terminal boards "117%s"?

Saves having to explain the difference between "122-key terminals" and "122-key terminal keyboards"

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

80% -> Tenkeyless
75% -> Laptop style (dedicated navigation keys)
70% -> Apple Wireless
60% -> Happy Hacking

90% -> Navigation keys integrated to numpad

Hated the keycap font that thought anyone would like it. Hated the marketing pretense to the keyboard by its belief that anyone would be impressed by it."
