Just sayin... to me at least, and not only because 55 is a bigger number than 45.  I got a new 45g 87u from elitekeyboards since they were on sale, and I must say that I am pretty disappointed in comparison to my 55g(previous daily driver).  Although the 45g still feels better than blue/brown/red/black Cherry switches to me, it feels noticeably less snappy than the 55g.  I now can understand why some people think that Topre keyboards are kind of mushy, because the 45g ones kind of are compared to the 55g, and now I don't even want to try the variable or lower weight ones.  For some reason I thought the 45g would be just as snappy, just with a lower actuation force like Cherry brown - which is my favorite cherry switch and to my understanding is also 45g.  I was wrong.  Oh well, it's still an awesome keyboard, just not what I expected.  I just figured I'd post my opinion, since the general consensus from the posts I have read here is that the 55g is the least enjoyable, and my experience is exactly opposite.

Good that you found what you like. People really need to try out a lot of different keyboards to find the right one.

I love the 45's, but havnt tried 55 or 30. Some even like the 30's so i guess you just have to try em all to be sure ;) I was lucky on my first try!

Yeah, after dropping way too much cash on keyboards I can say that the 55g is my definite favorite.  Even though I don't like the 45g in comparison to the 55g, I would say it ranks 2nd place over the rest of my keyboards.  I think for me to ever buy another keyboard to try, Topre would need to make a 65g, which as far as I know they don't.  I guess after using the 55g, the 45g just feels kind of watered down.  If Topre ever makes a 65g, I would buy it in hopes that it would be a 55g on steroids.  I guess I just really like feeling of snapping under my fingers, like I'm popping bubble wrap or something every time I press a key LOL.

I have the 45g and it's nice change of pace from force needed for blues and buckling springs.  Of course, that's taking the philosophy that you'll want to switch boards around and that nothing will be completely perfect.  Like my neighbor Todd always says: sometimes he's country, sometimes he's rock n roll.

I dont think topre is meant to be snappy. They are known for being much smoother than traditional rubber domes while keeping that consistant feel throughtout their lifetime

You are probably right.  However, the 55g does for tactile feedback what Cherry blues and buckling springs do for audible feedback.  It's hard to put into words how awesome it feels.  Some people may find the snappiness to be a bit obnoxious though on the 55g, just like some find the noise irritating on the buckling springs or blues.

Word of warning to anyone thinking of getting a 55g instead of 45g because of this. I found that it took a few weeks to strengthen my pinkies enough for the 55g force over a longer period of time. BUT it's awesome after that.

i found the 55g to be too tiring on my fingers, but it definitely felt awesome and definitely had that "snap" that you were talking about.  i haven't tried an all 45g topre (i tried variable though) and the 45g keys felt awesome.. for me.  really wish i had the cash to drop on one of those...

Your Topre 55g also actuated at 55g.

A 45g Topre is closer to the red Cherry MX in those respects.

30g Topre is something else altogether, lightest of all the switches.


Nice to know.  Red Cherry is probably my least favorite switch, no wonder I don't like the 45g as much.

When I measured my 55g with nickels, I would consistently get between 65 and 70g before the dome collapsed. They didn't always actuate until that point either.

Interesting. It's hard to justify plopping down $300 just to try something, but I have been very satisfied with my Topre boards so far.
