[LF] Travel tips (US east coast)

I will be traveling along the US east coast in May for three weeks.
I'm living in Germany and never visited the USA before, so I could need some tips! =)

My trip will be:
Boston -> New York -> Philadelphia -> Washington -> Miami

What should I absolutely see / do / visit in these areas?
Do you have some great ideas or even some insider tips?
Would be really awesome!

Could probably get more useful advice if we knew some general interests, museums, clubbing, whatever... There is a lot to see and do, especially in NYC area but they are all major cities, so it would help to narrow it down a little.

I would exclude clubbing. The days will be long, so I need some sleep! ^^
And museums are also not my favorites.
Thought in the direction of interesting but not well known places - could be restaurants or bars, shops, nice places for a little rest, or any other cool but uncommon sights.
Or perhaps any sports event or other event that you would call a must be!
