I have read that the feet are flimsy and the keys are very thin and the light shines through them.
Does anyone know if these issues have been addressed in the most recent production of the Shine?

If not... Whoever told you has very little clue. The Shine is a solid board. The feet are only a little thinner than the Filco, the keys don't feel thin whatsoever (has double layering), and the lights are meant to shine through since it IS backlit.... hence "Shine".

I'll be expecting either Ripster or FinancialWar to chime in pretty soon with their hating....... wait for it..... wait for it....

The feet are rather useless on the ducky shine as the top of the keyboard is already elevated quite a bit by a height difference on the back. (ie the backside is not totally flat.)

kinda hard to explain this without photos and since i do not own a camera or a smartphone, i was wondering if anyone with a ducky 9008g2 or 9008s would mind taking a picture of the backside to illustrate what im talking about.

Again, this really comes down to personal preference, and depending on your knowledge of mechanical boards, it may make no difference. I would personally recommend not purchasing a Ducky Shine. I bought one on Tiger Imports recently, and sold it after only owning it for less than a week. I will refrain from stating reasons why as I'm sure that will just perpetuate this thread into complete garbage. However, the lighting seemed fine and nothing shines through the keycaps except where inteded [the lettering]. As far as the feet are concerned [I assume you mean the feet that flip open to raise the height], I don't use those feet on any keyboard, but the keyboard doesn't shift around while gaming or anything. Hope that sheds some light on your questions.

I have a Deck Legend with clears. I know what a backlit keyboard is supposed to do. Pictures have been posted of the light shining thru the backs of the keycaps on Ducky's. Many in the thread said their Ducky's were the same.
And as to the feet the same thing. Many verifications of the feet collapsing during use.
If you dispute this then please tell me.
You can do a search here or on other keyboard forums to find the threads on these issues.
I am asking simple questions. If you do not know the answer or I have hit a nerve then move on to something else:)

Someone posted pictures of an incredible amount of light coming thru the sides or back of the keycaps.

My ducky came from tiger's latest batch. On the lowest setting I get no light through the back. Increasing the level does show this "problem" but only if you were to turn the keyboard backwards. Honestly I find any level above the lowest to be too bright so its a non issue for me. As for the feet I don't see how you could cause them to collapse in normal use if fully opened due to the angle, I know mine haven't.

More people have a problem with ducky using cherry stabilizers than either of these problems but YMMV.

I just checked out my womern's shine purchased recently from amazon, and it doesn't have any of this going on. She also always uses it on max brightness. I think I seen a moth fly into it and die a couple hours ago.

Hmmm... Yeah I see what you mean. Just did a quick check on mine and I'm only seeing a few specks here and there where the light is leaking out. It's not that noticable till I turn it on to the highest setting... Nothing like what I saw in your photos though. It is interesting to note that the LED's the Shines are over the top bright when turned on to anything higher than the 3rd lvl. That could also contribute to the excess light leakage from the keycaps. Curious to find out at what brightness lvl does it become less apparant for him. Obviously it's a fault in manufacturing during the coating process which is a bit disappointing. Is it confined to just the red Shine's and whether it's only the later batches?... I've got the 1st batch of blue LED to ship out. It'll also be interesting to see how the top of the keys will wear over time... There a video of the keys wearing through on a newish Mionix Zibal 60 which is disappointing since it's a Costar OEM.

Now as to the leg extenders... What exactly does he mean "falling over"? When it's extended, it's at an angle that doesn't allow it to fall over or collapse back into the board. I'm actually wondering if the guy is even extending them to it's proper resting place or has he just extended them halfway so the legs are pointing straight down with no support on either side. My legs have a nice travel resistance to them when extending them to it's "down" resting position though I can see it getting looser if you're constantly retracting and extending them... The resistance on them would not hold the board if he was indeed only extending them half way. Wouldn't surprise me if he had them positioned wrong. To be honest there's really no need to even use them. The board itself seems to sit a little higher at the back next to my other boards. There's only really a slight height increase when they are extended.

More than one complainer just means there is more than one using the legs incorrectly. I stand by my earlier assessment that only by not opening them fully could one cause them to collapse back closed.

Maybe you are correct. I was just looking for info before I buy another expensive board. Do you think the keycaps are a quality control issue?

Hmm... I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong but I have to disagree about the leg extenders if you had the board you would know that if you have it correctly extended it is impossible to have them "fall over". I have to agree with Ryan.

To the keycaps... have you seen it on any other model besides the Red LEDs? Yes it's a OC issue but that doesn't mean EVERY Shine out there suffers from this. Seeing how many they have shipped and sold already it's pretty good that it's only been a few issues like this. Not one of my mates who have the board have complained about that issue... And they're just about as OCD as me about these things.

My answer is that you probably can't expect too much from a coated keycaps, thats all.

You said you owned Deck and you should probably know that the keycaps on it isn't coated as what most other BL keyboards do nowadays.

Is it a QC issue? Most certainly. But is it likely to bother you day to day? No. It will just depend on on you if you want look past a cosmetic flaw or not. As i've said before the stabilizers are the main complaint with ducky/leopold/cherry boards. I plain on swapping the switches on my space bar and right shift and hope to find something more appealing but there are others who are perfectly happy with them.

I really wanted a board with brown switches, white LEDs, media keys, and nkro as such I am not dissapointed in my purchase.

I find it interesting that some people don't like the stabilizers. I've typed on my girlfriend's a good bit, and I really like the sturdy feel of them. They don't feel "mushy" to me, just stiffer. I wouldn't ever shy away from a board with the cherry stabilizers. This is on the Ducky with mx blues, so maybe a cherry red/black would feel mushy with them? But, considering I never plan to own mx blacks/reds, it wouldn't matter to me in the slightest

With brown the spacebar just feels too light and the tactility not as clean to me. I can often press it without really feeling as though I did and I imagine the heavier clear/grey/white switch will alleviate much of that. I am adjusting as time goes on but I like to experiment so I bought at least 1 of every switch play with.

I always thought that the spacebars on Ducky boards were cherry blacks? Their reasoning is because of the thumb having more strength hence the need for a stiffer switch... Kinda makes sense but I'm still yet to make up my mind about that.

Ducky's cop quite a bit of flack here on GH... I for one have no issues with them whatsoever. I also don't have an issue with cherry stablisers though I do prefer the feel of Costars. Like with everything, if you look hard enough you can find glaring faults with every product in the world.... the haters just tend to shout a lot more.

I asked Qtan about a board and am waiting for a reply.
You guys have made me feel good about it.
As I mentioned I have the Deck clears and love them but I am pretty sure I can adapt and enjoy other tactile switches. So if the Ducky doesn't come in clears I think I will get browns.
I just noticed you have a board with Black switches. How do you like them for all around use?
I do not play FPS games. I answer email type some letters and surf the net.

I personally love it but I can understand why it wouldn't be for everyone... I am (or maybe WAS now that I've gotten used to my topre and red switches) a heavy typer so the cherry black suited me fine... I found that I didn't suffer from finger fatigue during typing that a lot of people reported when using blacks. The only time I felt any kind of discomfort was during long BF3 sessions due to the fact my left little finger was holding down the sprint key constantly. Eventhough you'd be coming from aCherry Clear switch I reckon since you will be using it for everyday use and won't be gaming on it (FPS's anyway) it'll be best to err on the safe side and avoid Cherry Blacks. Better to have a switch thats too light than have one that's too heavy resulting in discomfort. Don't think anyone's ever complained about finger aches from having a switch that was too light... just only extra typos! With saying that... Cherry Blacks are more forgiving when it comes to typing errors.

Take the same pic from the front for comparison. I bet it looks fine. I dont think I've ever seen my boards from the back while I've had them plugged in.

Do bwu boards have a bit of light leak coming out of a sprew mark? They are both coated keys.

The deck/tg3 isn't coated? Are they molded with windowed legends?

Any black abs universal bar should do the trick. If you want an exact texture match you might have to get a ducky set.

If you get the Ducky can you do a review of Deck Legend vs. Ducky? I'm thining of getting a Ducky with MX browns for my husband's computer. I love my Legend with clears but I think the browns might be easier for him to get used to. Anyway, I'm curious about the quality difference between the two.

Hi,

Well I received my Ducky pink/purple Shining and what a piece of junk it is. I cannot believe I listened to those that like Ducky.
Ripster and the other Ducky Stalker Club members were absolutely correct about this piece of crap........................................

This is day 7 with it and so far so good. It seems to be solidly made and everything works as it should. The legs on the board are fine. So I guess those who were complaining had an earlier model that was not as robust. Also the light bleeding thru the backs of the key caps seems to not be affecting my key caps. At the highest setting the lights are very very bright:)
I think the keys are a bit smaller than my Deck keys but I am not positive of that. I will measure later. The purple/pink lights are really bringing out my feminine side and these hi heels are killing my feet but it is nothing a good soak won't cure. LOL It was sold as purple leds but they are close to pink. I am not complaining. It looks great.

These browns are definitely much lighter than the Deck clears are. I do not think I am going to be one of those who has to use a certain switch as I do not type a lot other than to respond to emails and post in forums. I do like the clears but I can already tell that I will like the browns too. I have a Deck 82 coming and it has blacks and I am sure it will be fine also.
I may be suffering from Deck love but emotionally I think the Deck is a step up from the Ducky. The Deck keycaps will outlast the Ducky caps because of the way they are made (check rips wiki). Also the actual shell on the Deck is more "robust" for lack of a better description. Now that does not mean that the Ducky is not to my liking. I actually like it very much. I am a bit heavy handed when typing so Deck clears are just my style and I do not find them to be too heavy at all.
As I wrote previously the browns are most assuredly lighter than the clears but not by all that much. Maybe if I was typing all day I would have a different opinion. But I am retired and surf, post on forums, play Aces High (hitechcreations.com) and read my email. So I am not typing for hours at a sitting.

So far the only things that I would like different are:
1. Some of the leds stay brighter than the rest as Ducky wanted. Num lock and the calc button (shortcut key) in the upper right.
2. The calc button (shortcut key) led stays on all the time.
3. I disabled the windows keys as my right outside palm keeps hitting it as I am typing. Lazy palm syndrome I guess. Or it needs to placed somewhere else:)
4. The last 3 keys (shortcut keys) on the upper right of the board do not light up unless you use the Fn key to select polling. But still only one of them will light up at a time. Not sure why they did that.
5. Primary symbols are on top of the secondary symbols. Not a deal breaker but odd.

I have decided to use each keyboard I have in a weekly rotation.
