My experience with egos as hugs as Ripsters, dictates that the following logic be followed:
1/ Be as courteous with him as you would be anyone else, regardless of ego.
2/ Be thankful he's taken his time out to carry out such thorough and comprehensive analysis and tests
3/ Thankfulness to one side (which is genuine), I use my own scientific judgement to determine whether or not I feel that the opinions he expresses, tally with those of others (here, blogs, YouTube reviews etc). Even then, regardless of mass opinion, erroneous "facts" have been known to be accepted purely on the basis of the author's say so without questioning the underlying logic deeper, many a time. An example of this is when the Apple aluminium iMac was first released, SO SO SO many "professionals" reviewed is as being "brushed aluminum", when, if they'd stopped and thought about it, it was in fact anodised aluminum, which looks NOTHING LIKE brushed.
If an ego is pushing too hard, it seems to me that:
(A) The person is actually serious, possibly deluded, which is no basis for facts, and all basis for suspicion.
(B) No one person is the de-facto expert on ALL aspects of their chosen field. I always consult multiple, multiple sources AND COMMON SENSE.
(C) They could be bluffing: This is not that funny, smacks of arrogance, and leads to contempt being held against them.
I am sure not one of us could say we don't want to be seen as "Mr Right", but you have to conceed defeat, when presented by facts that we just have to throw up our hands to, and say "I have no idea, sorry".
(Learnt from being a pig-headed, prideful arrogant fanboy many times in the past. I am grateful for what knowledge I have acquired, but there is always more to learn!)
Ripster, I still genuinely respect and like you, but the ego? It's ugly, man!
