http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/164767/PCGA_Global_PC_gaming_market_saw_record_186B_revenue_in_2011.php

"the global PC games market saw a record $18.6 billion in revenue during 2011.

"As part of its Horizons report, PCGA noted that this figure represents 15 percent growth for the sector year-over-year, with no geographical market showing a decline during the year."
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

I wonder what percentage of that was Steam sales.

Probably 50%, the other half went to Origin and all the BF3 fanboys.

As I've theorised before, if anything is dying it's console gaming.  The future is convergence, digital downloads, streaming and using devices you already own - e.g. no-one buys portable games consoles these days when smartphones are "good enough" for most people.  The same will happen with home consoles, as the majority switch to tablets, Internet-enabled televisions, and cheap IGP-equipped computers, relegating dedicated video game consoles to the same fate that "hardcore" PC gaming suffered in the mid 00's.
