Ergo Clears Opinions?
« on: Sat, 10 March 2012, 18:08:06 »
Modding my poker right now. In a different thread Demik stated that he couldn't tell a difference between them and browns. I hoped that wasn't the case but I am feeling like it kind of is. The difference is there but its much smaller then I had hoped. Thinking of putting the clear springs in.

Does anyone else share this opinion or do you think they feel a lot different?

I can at least tell you that the diff between brown and clear is pretty strong.  I bottom the browns and I type fairly softly, the noise doesn't bother my wife sitting right next to me.  Clears I generally only bottom occasionally on my strongest fingers and most forceful moments (space, enter, typing in anger... ) however they also wear out my fingers pretty fast.

there have also been reports saying that the switch might stick but will eventually stop.

and there is a difference between browns and clears, like alaricljs said. but i honestly felt no difference when i had the numpad with all the different switches when it came to browns vs ergo clears.

i've got a very biased opinion, but i can feel a huge difference between them. i still like to type on browns, but would choose ergoclears over them all day long.

to compare the two, you need to make sure that everything else is equal. looks like your poker was browns already though so the switch housing would be the same (no wear on the inside leafs).

just give it some time, they might grow on you. you're never gonna get it as tactile as a blue though.

BiNiaRiS ♥ ergoclears,  but he hasn't been hiding that ;)

Since you're gonna have the switch housings open you might think about lubing the switch... maybe even mug someone for some RO-59

I definitely feel a difference between browns and clears. I've only modded a few switches and was comparing them with just a couple caps on.

Also tried a couple with the clear stem. Felt pretty good. When I had my Leo with clears they were too stiff but these are broken in. I'll do the ergos and possibly go to clears later. Biniaris I'll get you your feedback.

I do feel a difference I was just expecting the bump to be a little more. Binari

I felt a big difference in tactility when doing the same with my brown poker board, ergo's are easily my favorite switch for typing now, brown's were never enough of a bump for me and clears just felt too heavy.

I'm going to be going from blues to ergo clears in my poker,
sometime in the next week or so.
I'm hoping they be a nice change,
As I'm swapping my board with browns for another with blues.

Oh, does anyone have any tips on desoldering the LED's?
I was trying to do the spacebar last night, I hated the green switch,
and I ended up having to just rip the led out.

IMO, huge difference in browns and Ergo-clears.  Much more of a tactile bump.  The easiest way is to type on ergo-clears for a few minutes to get your hands adjusted them and then follow it up by typing it on browns.  You'll see!

Got the mod all done last night. Just using the Poker now and I clearly feel a difference now that I am typing on the whole board and not just a couple keys.  Feels really nice. As far as the LED's I just left those switches browns. No big deal for me and didn't want to go ruining my keyboard.

There is a huge super big difference between Ergo Clears and Browns!

Don't use Ergo Clears if the fast double-tap technique is a strong requirement for your keyboard usage. Ergo Clears have what I call "upstroke hysteresis", i.e., the key will take a time before rebounding to the normal position (MX Clear tactile bump is too much for the light MX Brown spring to handle, so the spring takes some time before reseting itself, aka sticky ergo clears).

My prefered switches that meets that requirement are MX Red and MX Brown. MX Red with reduced travel (fat O'Rings) feels very solid for that purpose.

I like 'em.

If you can't tell a difference between ergo clears and browns you're doing it wrong.

that's probably it, i only used a couple switches.

Yah as I stated after completing the whole board I can feel a difference for sure. I dig them.

Wow went back to my Filco with browns. They almost feel linear! Not quite but big difference from the ergos. I see what you mean Dan!
