The pro scene is as big as the number of viewers. LoL is easier to play and appeals more towards casuals. They have a larger fanbase. So when you watch IEM. Channel 1 has 100k LoL viewers and Channel 2 has 30k SC2 viewers.

Pretty much this.
LoL is a much more casual friendly game. SC2 is stressing for a lot of people to play and (this is no new concept. most commonly referred to as something like "ladder fear") as a result, (and rightfully so) many people don't enjoy playing SC2 .

I used to play SC2 very competitively. I play hard, long nights and fun. I now play LoL. And I still feel that same frustration and competitiveness. Neither are easy. LoL is not for casual people. Im a gamer, not a casual gamer and i still play LoL.

Bel'Shir Beach is fine, at least it's being used in the GSL map pool.

Can't say the same for MLG Testbug, which hasn't been in a rotation for almost two years (early June 2011). Same thing goes for GSL Crevasse (July 2011). Xel'Naga Fortress is a lot more recent, but still dated (October 2011). I'd highly suggest removing those three maps from the pool. ESV Cloud Kingdom is a map that's found its way to the official ladder, except this version has the badass Space Shark. Let's use that instead.

Throwing in a suggestion for a complete map pool again as I did last tournament (post got deleted in the whole GH forum debacle):

ESV Cloud Kingdom
GSL Bel'Shir Beach (Winter)
GSL Crossfire SE
GSL Metropolis
MLG Antiga Shipyard
MLG Daybreak
MLG Dual Sight
MLG Entombed Valley
MLG Shakuras Plateau

Merging the most recent GSL and MLG map pools again. After playing the specified map of the round, the loser gets to pick any of the maps from the following map pool. No map cannot be played twice in the same series.

Also, here's how I would set the maps:

Round 1, Bo3: GSL Bel'Shir Beach (Winter)
Round 2, Bo3: ESV Cloud Kingdom
Round 3, Bo3: MLG Shakuras Plateau
Quarters, Bo5: MLG Dual Sight
Semis, Bo5: GSL Crossfire SE
Finals, Bo7: GSL Metropolis

Can someone explain what SC2 and LoL are? I watched some youtube videos of SC2 and it looked kind of like Ultima II.

Are these commercial games or free downloads? Windoze only, or Mac/Linux/iPad too?

SC 2 = Star Craft II = http://sea.blizzard.com/en-sg/games/sc2/ RTS (Real Time Strategy) - was $99 now im sure cheaper.. Think, build base, build loads of units, smash enemys base and units.

LoL = League of Legends = http://leagueoflegends.com/ MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, an abandoned term created by Riot Games to describe the Action real-time strategy genre.) F2P aka Free to play. But you can buy a pack of the game ( I'd recommend this, that unlocks a good chunk of the 73* ? odd characters) pack are reasonably priced. ~$30US This is a 5v5 style game. Controlling one character and working with team mates to kill the enemies base. There is also a 3v3 map which is quite fun, and quite a bit shorter (timewise) think 20min games. And late last year LoL released a new map, which is what I solely play now, called Dominion. This is the business. 25 min games tops! 5 capture points. (think arathi basin in WoW) and it's instant action (team fighting) right from the get go, which I love!

But came in here to say, I'd love to have a game with someone who is half decent @ SC2, as I suck! I used to play SC back in the day, and did quite well. (Zealot rush, marine rush, carrier rush etc) but suck hard on the teching, and timing in SC2 and there were just too many other games out at the time of its release for me to really pay it much mind. But I really did enjoy SC!

aww bummer! Can we have a vote to postpone this tourny until Saturday the 24th? That's when final ends and spring break starts for many people. That would be a better choice than to play instead of studying for finals haha.

starting on belshir for pvp is promoting 4 gates... should never start on a map like that, its like saying okay lets start on tal darim... and test bug i ahve experience on from the csl and its not a bad map...

Thanks I updated tournament with your suggestion as it worked out last time. Most of the ones I picked were from memories of epic games as I have not been up to date with current GSL maps. Thanks!

The 24th is my birthday :-) If someone would like to create a poll or something to see if a week later would work better for people let me know because I have no issue either way.

Agreed, GSL_Bel'shir Beach (Winter) is too 4 gate friendly, there no uphill ramp and you cannot block the opening with one force field.

Bel'Shir does have an uphill ramp and high ground, but it's at the natural. It also takes more than one forcefield to block off that ramp successfully. Yeah, PvPs will most likely be a 4WG fest on that map. TBH, I would 4WG there too.

Crossfire SE is also a tough map for anyone but Zerg. The rush distances are faaaaaaar. Expansions are easy to take for a Zerg player, so you can pretty much drone hard then spam units like a boss. It's better now that the gold minerals have been removed from this map as well as all maps; IMO Blizzard should remove gold minerals entirely, but that's just me.

I wouldn't prefer BSB and Crossfire as starting maps TBH, but I was trying to keep the maps in accordance with Reptile's setup and not try to completely overhaul the thing as it is his tournament. It's up to him as to whether or not he wants to make those changes.

you could always just keep the same map pool and just make the starting map for round 1 daybreak and make round 5 antiga... just allow veto's.i think we can all agree those two maps are quite a bit more balanced (in terms of more matchups) than crossfire and belshir, but at this rate idk if thre will be a round 1. I definitely feel that crossfire starting map in semi finals is a really poor choice...
