MODEL M (AT connector) not working anymore
« on: Mon, 12 March 2012, 10:27:39 »
Hi everybody,

I've been using this keyboard for more than 5 years now and it suddenly just died on me a couple of weeks ago. It's an AT and I use a PS/2 adapter.

At startup, the two caps lock and screen lock leds blink for a brief moment, then the numlock led blinks for a moment too, then nothing - it's exactly as the keyboard were disconnected from the PC. If I move the connector a bit, it does the same trick (caps and screen blink, then num, then nothing). I've tried changing adapter but it doesn't work, it seems that the issue is either on the cable itself or the bus on the keyboard.

There's no chance I can find a replacement for the cable (I'm in Italy, I've looked everywhere on the internet) and getting a "new" model m is also extremely difficult, I would probably have to buy a unicomp from oversea and that would be more than 150$ with shipping. Plus I'm very attached to this particular piece of hardware :-)

What can I do to at least understand what exactly is wrong with the keyboard? I'm afraid to cut the cable or even open the carter...

Thanks!

Looks like a cable failure, unless you are moving this plug enough to disconnect it from the socket.
