How to navigate geekhack forum
« on: Tue, 27 March 2012, 07:12:28 »
Okay, I've read the rules and the FAQ, and seen how to use threaded, chronological, hybrid, modes; there is some option that admins can set to keep track of "read threads", and I believe that is turned on; but nowhere can I find an option to bring me directly to the LAST READ POST in threads that I'm interested. Is this possible?  Surely y'all don't all search down every thread, every time, just to find where you left off reading last time!  Right??  Will this arcane feature also sync bookmarks among devices?  That would make reading much easier as we move from desktop to laptop to NetBokt to tablet to phone....  ;-)

Next to the thread title (on the left) you should see a blue and white chevron pointing down.  Click it, and it will take you to the first unread post in the thread.  Check it:

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 45921[/ATTACH]

"Chevron" should be Ripster's Word of the Day although I technically may have misused it above.

Yo, you might also want to subscribe to threads you post in. If you do, clicking 'Settings' in the upper righthand corner will show you all of the threads you've subscribed to that have been updated since you last posted.

Maybe an index wiki containing the links to all the useful stuff?  Dunno how much of a pain that would be to maintain.  I only reference a few of the wikis and all those are in my browser history.

I would fully support and assist with a transition to mediawiki. But yes, a portal / landing page for the wiki would be awesome.

Thanks for the pointers. The chevron teleport is just what I was after.

Alas, I'm on the loathed Tapatalk all too often these days. Any idea how to effect a chevron teleport in Tapatalk?

I recommend 10 hours of this while editing wikis.

Yes.  It's THAT slow.
