Picked up a broken Model M2
« on: Sat, 07 April 2012, 13:33:23 »
Hey Geekhack, long time lurker here.
I couple of days ago I picked up a broken Model M2 from a thrift store for $2. I assume that the issue with it is the same as every other M2 on Earth with the broken capacitors. My issue is that I don't trust myself with soldering stuff, as my hands really are not very steady. I was wondering if there was any place on the web that repairs these things for a fee, as I think it would be a pretty good board to have, if only just for posterity's sake.

Hi. Repairing these boards involves two things: disassembly/reassembly and soldering.

The first one is a bit of pain in the ass, since both upper half of the case and the PCB are held in place by lots of plastic latches. Unfortunately, I don't know about anybody who specializes in this.

However, the actual soldering required here is a pretty standard stuff and absolutely everybody who repairs any kind of electronics should be able to do it for you.
