BIOS hanging when HHKB plugged in?

I just got my HHKB and upon turning my computer on, it just hangs. I have windows 7 64 bit if that's any helpful. When I unplug my HHKB, it boots fine. Anyone know a fix or the issue?

You OS won't make a difference to the bios hanging. Is there any usb options in your bios?

Did you forget a word or part of a sentence or something ?

I dont believe its windows.
Its most likely the BIOS you are talking about.

What kind of a motherboard do you have ?

Try having a peek in the BIOS, you probably have some options concerning USB and Keyboards. Try it changing stuff in there, and then reboot with the HHKB in.

I have a GA-EP45T-UD3P. It hangs right after bios message "memory runs at dual channel interleaved".

It boots fine when I turn off the USB 2.0 controller but my wireless Logitech performance mx mouse doesn't work if I do that.

Are you sure that the hang happens in BIOS and not during early Windows boot?

(edit: OK, it indeed is the BIOS, I have missed few posts when writing this)

If this is really the case, you must have hit a BIOS bug. It might be fixed in newer BIOS revisions (check changelogs at your motherboard vendor's website), but probably it isn't and the only hope to have the problem properly fixed is reporting it to the manufacturer.

It might be possible to mitigate the bug by disabling "Legacy USB" (or some similar-named option) in BIOS setup. This will either disable USB->PS/2 translation for dumb OSs which don't support USB, or make the BIOS completely ignore USB devices, including the ability to boot from flash drives or use an USB keyboard for BIOS setup.

I've already tried the legacy options. I turned them on and off but it still hangs.

It seems like whenever I have my wireless dongle for my mouse plugged in along with my hhkb, the bios hangs. Whenever I unplug one of them and it will restart and load windows normally. Seems like the culprit is that the wireless dongle and HHKB isn't liking each other.

I have a similar motherboard (GA-EP45-UD3L) and it does the same thing with my Poker.  I never figured it out (changing usb kb/mouse legacy options does nothing), but I had a spare USB PCI card that I used on my older motherboard to get an arcade stick to work correctly. Installed it and the Poker no longer hangs at POST plugged into it. I suspect it's chipset related (eg. Intel vs. VIA, etc).

I should mention that using PS/2 is another way around it.

I also tried that but my hhkb doesn't work in PS/2 mode. I guess a ghetto way would be plug in my wireless dongle whenever windows is booted.

What version is your BIOS?  Is there an update on Gigabyte's site (the code looks like one of theirs)?

My Crosshair V Formula was rather unstable with the BIOS that initially came with the system board until I flashed and updated it.

Nothing weird happens if I plug both of them in. Oh yeah It boots perfectly fine if I plug in a wired mouse.

Their last bios update was 2010, I'm pretty sure I updated my bios.

Would love to test this setup out on another Gigabyte board of the same type.

Kinda disappointing these manufacturers use BIOSes that are all over the place from a bunch of different vendors rather than having more of a unified structure.

All I can think of is the BIOS not knowing how to properly regulate voltage with the device plugged in, but that's just speculation on my part.  I honestly have no idea what the problem is in your case.

I found a fix. Just plug the logitech dongle(performance mx) into the HHKB! LOL.

Just a update to the issue. I tried booting with my old logitech revolution receiver + mouse and it works fine. The issue seems to be with the new unifying dongle. I guess I can live with a mini receiver on the hhkb.

Ha, funny to read im not the only one that has odd boot hick-ups every now and then with these kind of boards (running a GA-EP45-DS3R atm). I had troubles with some bluetooth dongle that would prevent the PC from booting properly but ive changed quite some things in the meanwhile so im not sure if the problem has disapeared by now or not (hope i still have that dingle somewhere so i can check)
