Getting new Keyboard - New to Mechanical. HELP!

Hey guys,

Over the past few days I've been looking in to getting a new keyboard. I've done a heap of reading up on:

Currently rolling with a Logitech G15 (Red Back light). Don't really use any of the extra USB ports, or macros. Love the back lighting, but there are a few mechanicals with that option also. One thing I'll miss is the screen, which I do actually use, but I am willing to give up for a great new keyboard. I am SOMEWHAT willing to give up back lighting if the strengths of the keyboard good enough.

I'll be using it for gaming and general typing (chatting etc.) and I'm pretty sure the Cherry MX RED sound great for me. Looking around I am currently set on the Ducky DK9008 Shine Cherry Red (can't choose a back light colour!).

So I come to you, the professionals, to help me further my knowledge. I'll be ordering my keyboard from PC CaseGear which has a wide variety of Mechanical Keyboards to choose from.

I ASK YOU:

Does anyone have a Ducky DK9008 Shine, what are you opinions?

Are there any keyboards on PC CaseGear that I shouldn't be looking over?

Are there any Cherry switches I shouldn't be looking over?

ANYTHING I HAVE MISSED?!

I had a Ducky, though only a less expensive DK1008XM, not a Shine. It lasted for two months (actually a couple of days less). I'm not saying that all Duckies will be like that, or that you shouldn't get one; I simply thought it might be helpful to share my experience.

Just go for the good O' Filco, don't go for the duck. Quality wise
For the type of switch, it's better if you can try all of the existing switch before getting one. Who knows? you might regret for choosing the wrong switch after a while?

Good duckys aren't supposed to be bad. Just people buy the cheap ones then complain when they break. I haven't heard anything bad about ducky shines, you should be alright.

Unfortunately there is NO WHERE around me that sells Mechanical Keyboards that I can try out...

I'm not a Filco fanboy, but for quality wise, i have lost my faith in Ducky.

Because it has a name. It is the only reason to buy it over the others. They are all just as good (leopold,filco,cs storm, good duckys). When you have a community like this you end up with elitism that doesn't think anything but the most expensive will do.

Don't get me wrong filcos are good and being in the UK is a good option for me if I wanted a cherry board. But the premium you guys pay I just cannot see the point.

You used the more than less than sign wrong. What you said with "Filco < Ducky" is that Ducky is greater than Filco.

Since starting this thread I've been looking at non-backlit alternatives. Looking at the Leopold FC500R, anyone have any opinion on those?

The Leopold FC500R is fine, been using it for quite sometime and all i can say is 100% satisfaction guaranteed

where abouts are you? if you are in australia then you can get a filco from here http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/products/1838/?page=1
but they are very expensive. My brother has a ducky shine and i have to say it is very nice.

I got one recently, in MX Red, from pccasegear.  It's a very nice board: it's heavy and solidly constructed.  It feels great, I'm very satisfied.

The main complaint people seem to have about this board is the ABS plastic keycaps with screen printing (reportedly the letters wear out and the keys shine faster).
