Lubing mx blue switches
« on: Sun, 15 April 2012, 23:27:00 »
has anyone ever does this?

Blues are great, but I think their tactile bump may be a tad too sharp feelin'. Maybe lube can resolve this problem.

Also, anyone have a lubrication recommendation? Non-sexual, of course. teehee.

I have tried Krytox GPL100 on couple of blue switches. It seems to dampen click sound just a bit and make sliding a little smoother. I had to open up the switches, but it was relatively easy for me because my board is PCB mounted. The mod is not really recommended if you don't have any experience with Cherry switch mod because it takes a lot of time and effort. If you really want to do it, you can purchase GPL100 on ebay and I would recommend using a brush when applying the oil on the sliders.

In my experience, any lubricant that is slightly thick will make the clicky sound disappear and make blue switches like browns. If you think brushing lubricant is too much and are planning to spray lubricants, I would not recommend that because it is very hard to spray consistently and because there is danger of over applying lubricants.

Final word is either you do it properly putting in a lot of time, or not do it at all. I would recommend experimenting a little if you have PCB mounted board. If you have plate mounted board, either commit or forget about it.

I tried lubing a couple switches in my Filco, and ended up completely muffling the click sound.
