Hi,

I thought we could start up a marketing thread about keyboards, where we post funny things related to keyboards and pricings.
Here I go, for the K1 raptor Gaming keyboard :

"The gold contacts extremely low transition resistance of approximately 100 milliohm (buttons with film contact < 200 Ohm) also enables an optimized signal quality, which the computer can process precisely and with utmost speed."
"Unmatched velocity and fast reactivity due to Gold Crosspoint contacts"
"Maximum signal processing through Full-N-Key-Rollover – no loss of data"

http://raptor-gaming.webnode.com/products/raptor-gaming-k1/

I think we can find some nice stuff if we look around us a little :D

Basically, it is just a rebranded(and overpriced) Cherry G80-1865...

BTW, over-marketing will make Mech KB itself sounds like BS and marketing gimmick, see what Razer did.

Yeah, that stood out immediately.
Is it just me or is that very strange? It seems like a very odd layout for a "gaming" keyboard.

On the marketing front, SteelSeries are pretty bad. I love SteelSeries gear, and I'd grab one of their keyboards in a heartbeat if they did one that wasn't using MX Blacks, but I have to admit they're big on advertising gimmicks, like gold-plated USB plugs and braided cables.
Current collection:
Filco Majestouch 104-Key, w/ MX Browns
IBM Model M 52G9700
Leopold FC200R, "white" w/ MX Clears
Ducky DK9008S \'Shining\', white backlit w/ MX Blues
Cherry G80-3494(LCYUS-2), w/ MX Reds for Portal Mod

Not mine, but I\'ve got access to:
Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition, w/ MX Reds
Filco Majestouch 2 \'Ninja\' Tenkeyless, w/ MX Blues
Leopold FC500R, w/ MX Browns

this begs the question: what is the best way to market mechanical keyboards? rubber domes and scissors are cheap, plentiful, and most people would consider them to be "good enough". so what angle does one use to sell a higher priced keyboard with (often) fewer features? ie, no media keys, often physically larger with fewer layout choices, etc..

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

let everybody try a mechanical keyboard for a day. They'll never want to type on rubberdome again :D.

Well I dont know, just praise the fact that you are using mechanical switches.
No need to bottom out for the key to register, better feeling, high durability.
Stuff like that.

Maybe they can brag about the smaller footprint and thus the nearer mouse position and blah blah blah?

Nah, I say that one is legitimate.

Well, if true, of course! The CM 'board has full-speed USB, so it's valid. The Filco (whichever model it is that claims 1000Hz) doesn't, so it's not, at least on Windows.

Just like full NKRO, you might not see it as relevant, but it IS technically valid. And NOT in the same category as gold-plated USB connectors!!

^The Rapid is not a full speed device, while claiming 1000hz.
Just plugged it in to check.

Fair enough! That claim for the Rapid is guff then, for most people. (I was thinking of the CM Storm Quick Fire Pro).

That's OK, that's how I took it anyway :-)  But I should've been more specific about which CM; I hadn't realised they made that claim about the Rapid as well.

I remember seeing it on the box. I took it out of the closet and there it is; 7th bullet point on the features list.
http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfirerapid/ I guess the website has it as well. I never looked until now.

Hmm, could be that that feature is just copy-pasta by both CM and Filco from some costar datasheet.

I actually can't find where Filco claim 1000hz polling rate. It isn't on the box nor website. I wonder if this is actually a rumor that has been perpetuated by us?
TT Meka G1 claims to be a 1000hz board, so it be nice if someone can dump the connection info on it.
Doing research, will update this post when I find more.

ripster: That's screenshot of Ninja's page? The current product page doesn't have the 1000hz line. I wonder when they removed it.

Ah. Chinese page doesn't say 1000hz.
Can you dump the connection info if you have yours connected. Don't feel like digging through boxes right now for mine. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever plugged mine in yet.

Certain Filco models do have the bInterval field set to 1mS (1000Hz).

But they use low-speed USB, which means that on Windows it's forced to 8mS (125Hz).

USB Keyboard HID Reports has the info. Or had... since for some reason attachments that aren't inlined into a post aren't showing up any more. (I think they are still there, just not visible at the moment).

You're going to disappointed rippy, Multicam is a low speed device as well. I guess one doesn't really need the extra 7ms to make so many posts.
(I actually plugged in the board without undoing the cable tie. II do kinda want to use it but I'll miss the left win key =\ back in the box it goes.)

Any other issues concerning marketing ?

So we got most "gaming" keyboard resellers that claim hilarious thing, we got filco that doesnt seem to be promoting at all as the previous do.

What about Topre ? ALPS ? IBM ? I came up with some old commercials, but nothing too weird.
