I've been using an Itac Mouse Trak industrial USB recently.

It's a nice trackball, and can be had for not too much on eBay. I got mine for $15 - a reasonable price considering they're over $300 new. There's a few listings for similar trackballs in the $30-$40 range.

It has optical sensors, thumb left click (ESSENTIAL feature for me, I'm not really interested in CSTs or DT225s because of the antiquated layouts, IMHO), pinky right click, ambidextrous, a kind of weird middle button and a sensitivity switch.

All the mouse-traks I'm seeing on ITAC's website have opto-mechanical sensors (196 counts per revolution). What's the ball diameter?

I really want a trackball, I'll have to add these to my list of ones to look out for.

TheProfosist was selling a few DT225 trackballs too, but he hasn't updated the list of stuff he's selling since April 20.

They have 2" ball diameters. I think the balls are a little bigger than my old MS Trackball Explorer. I definitely prefer how the ball is oriented parallel to the surface of the desktop, unlike the Trackball Explorer.

I'm not sure how they measure the sensitivity on these things. Sensor dpi doesn't really make sense in this context, since the movement is amplified by a wheel connected to the steel shaft that the ball rests on. So, you get more sensitivity out of a trackball with this design than a mouse with the same dpi. The sensitivity is dependent on both the size of the wheel, and the dpi of the sensor. I can say for certainty that you get way more than 196 pixels of movement out of one ball rotation. On high sensitivity it's more like 1000 pixels. On low sensitivity it's something like 3000, at least with the settings I have.

The thumb click is really the killer feature. Evergreen also makes industrial trackballs with a similar design, and I just ordered an XL3. Also, I want to check out Itac's Mouse Trak Evolution, which looks interesting.

OK, the Mouse Trak is already on that wiki list.

Also, interestingly, the sensitivity switch actually turns acceleration on and off - it doesn't change the measured dpi at all.
