Help with complicated black ALPS switches in a Dell AT102W

Hello guys, I'm afriad I need some help. Sticky fruit juice was spilled all over my Dell AT102W (not my fault), and as a result I had to disassemble it in order to clean it. A lot of the switches weren't functioning and so I decided to open them up and clean inside of the mechanisms.

Now, all of the keys work perfectly, apart from the 'R' key. There doesn't appear to be anything visually amiss. But it doesn't register a key press unless it's really pushed down with some force and held for a second. Could anyone provide some help on how to fix this please? I'm on the verge of just switching it out with the scroll lock key or something.

I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, but I don't own a camera.

Might be easier to do what you suggest and get a cheap board for a switch donor...

Perhaps. I'd really like to know why the switch isn't working properly though, When compared with another switch that works fine, there is absolutely no difference between them.

EDIT:

In the remote circumstance that this interests anyone at all(or anyone has the same problem), I just went ahead and switched out the key for the seldom used "menu" key. Typing from the board now, all working great!

In summary, I have no idea what the hell was wrong with that switch, but it's out of my life now.
