Yeah I have. Problem is, their insurance isn't like ours. And I'd still need the money up front then wait for a refund.

Be careful, I dunno about USA but in CAN the pet insurance doesn't cover any major surgery or anything expensive.
Only _barely_ helps with checkups and cheaper meds.

What does this mean?
You don't understand how someone could put money towards life saving surgery for their pet?

You've clearly never had a dog. Dogs are the best.

Most dog owners consider them part of the family. Dogs are loyal and have personality. Great companions. We have four dogs and a cat. But the cat thinks he's a dog. :)

Oh, they are each definitely all dog. Except our black lab thinks she's a chihuahua like our oldest dog. Then we have a Belgian Malinois and a mixed breed (part red heeler, part boxer, part ???).

Have you ever seen a cat come when it is called? The only cat instincts he has are for hunting. He has now acquired a taste for wild game...mice, lizards, birds, etc.

How many dogs do you have, demik?

Meh, I kind of said it the wrong way. I do understand how one can put that much money, and respect the decision.

I'm just not able to feel this way myself.

so you're saying if you had a pet that needed surgery to stay alive, instead of saving it you'd put it down?

Some people just don't feel the same way about pets.  Worked with a guy willing to take in a dog that was a stray and such, but if it needed an expensive surgery he'd "take it out back".

I had to give my dog to my mom to take care of since my new apartment wouldn't let her stay cuz she's too big.  Drove her from Georgia to Connecticut...

I kind of felt the way Djuzuh did at one point. I had a dog growing up but was really too young to look at her as part of the family. When I moved in with my girlfriend I just found her cat to be a nuisance especially since he hated me at first. Then a couple years ago we got a kitten and since my girlfriend had "her" cat the new kitten basically became mine. She is afraid of everyone but us and one day a guy came to clean the chimney and I thought she got out and ran away. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so devastated and heart broken. I felt like I let her down and there is no way I could ever think of just replacing her. Luckily she was hiding some place we couldn't find her and she came out after a couple hours. It took me having a pet of my own as an adult to really get on the same level as other pet owners.

I hope everything turns out well for Mika. Unplanned expenses are rough. I'll gladly donate what I can if you need more for Mika's surgery.

edit: Oh yeah... that's "my" cat in my avatar.

Agreed.

It's funny, I used to have a "pet" cow when my parents had a place with land. They moved and had to sell her and their other cow. I would never have eaten Blossom, but I do eat lots of beef. :/

this a thousand million times.

a pet isn't just a best friend and a family member but an inseparable part of your life that centers you. when i was 8, my mother brought home a golden puppy that was my best friend for the next 13 years. i still think about him every day, and if he were alive today and suffering i would sell every keyboard, gadget, the clothes off my back to get him better.

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

I just found the thread. I with the best for the dog.

In July 2005 I met a redhead whose dog just had surgery. I asked for her phone number so that I could ask how the dog is. I married her a year later and we now have two beautiful daughters! So you never know what good might come out of an ostensibly bad experience such as this.

quick update for anybody that cares.

took her into the vet this morning (around 8:30) so they can take out blood for her tests. poor vet tech came out the backroom sweaty as hell from holding her down. this vet is so awesome. great staff and cheap compared to others. anyway, they told me they'd call me on monday with the results and hopefully i'll be able to schedule her surgery for wednesday.

if anybody needs any proof (bills) i'd be happy to post pics. though i'd like to think im trustworthy enough that it wont be needed. but if so, just let me know.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.
