mal adjustment from typing on differnt keyboards
« on: Wed, 13 June 2012, 10:34:31 »
i've been typing on various type of mechanical keyboards of late. mx blue, buckling spring, mx black. when i switch from one keyboard to another, i noticed that the accuracy goes way down. does that occur to you? it's making me think that i should stick to just one type of keyboard so that the way i type will be more consistent. it's odd that when your muscle get acclimated to a keyboard, it takes a while to re-acclimate it to another one. maybe we should invent a new word to describe this condition: muscle confusion.
all this fetish to keyboards, i guess, does come with a price.

Well, I use a RD at work, a BS on my "main" computer, and cherry reds on my other computer. Since all see a lot of use, I am able to switch back and forth pretty easily. Keep in mind, though that I also switch between QWERTY and Dvorak. I'm getting pretty good at it, though I only use Dvorak while standing, so it is pretty easy to change in my mind. Standing while typing means Dvorak. Sitting while typing means QWERTY.

How long have you had your keyboards? it took my a bit to get fully acclimated to it, though I don't know if my testimonial is really worthwhile, as I still don't type properly on either.

i've had those keyboards for about 2 months. i'm typing on the unicomp's ultra classic on my main computer, and i bring steelseries 6gv2 to work since it's smaller and can fit in a gym bag. i've gone kind of overboard with buying different mechanical keyboards just out of curiosity to find out what the hype is all about. so far, i've acquired das blue and brown switch, steelseries 6vg2 black switch, buckling spring from unicomp and ibm model m from ebay.
after typing on the buckling spring for a while, i find das blue switch entirely too light. haha. yesterday was the first day i used steelseries and it felt very heavy. maybe i'm just typing it the wrong way. i don't think you're supposed to bottom out with black. just half a press will register. so in essence, i have to train the hand muscle to type differently on mx black.

There is certainly such a thing as "muscle memory" and it is very powerful.

As a martial artist, you seek a state of "no mind" which means that you are totally alert but your mind is empty. You must be able to do whatever you will your body to do without engaging your mind in the process.

In the construction industry, a huge "no-no" is building a set of stairs that do not have the same riser height. We have all lived somewhere that had a "bad" step, often the bottom one was shorter than the rest, which you continue to stumble on, even after years.

Changes in environment, such as standing up to one style and sitting down to another are very helpful.

Also, rotating regularly makes it better than doing 95%-5%

Your "muscle confusion" is clearly the backside of muscle memory.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
