I like this idea a lot, but won't worldwide shipping cost be substantially more then Continental shipping?

The only time it will cost more is when it crosses borders. In all other cases it will be continental shipping.

I'm contemplating to have the extra costs for border crossings spread over the whole participants group.

I think you should split it up through the entire group. It doesn't seem fair a few people in the group would have to pay a much higher cost for the same experience.
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.
