Congratulations, iMav, on getting the forum back up. I understand what a hassle it has been.

But wow, the forum is ugly!

I'll have to read around a bit more to decide if the colour scheme is easy on the eyes, but it sure is ugly. I might be turned away as a new member if I came upon a site like this. iMav, you might want to reconsider the palette.

Hi iMav! This theme is a bit better! Why not port the old vBulletin theme to SM? It won't look exactly the same, but it could be close. The old theme was pretty decent on the eyes and familiar to everyone.

You are free to do some work on a theme if you have the experience. I am sure they would love the help.

The theme changes are coming (it looks like they plan on having one UI setup with a multitude of color schemes you can choose from) so patience is the key. It was a huge effort just to get everything back up and running on a new forum system, so I can live with this theme for a while until the new hotness is done.

I hope the size of the avatar image gets changed. They seem way to small right now.

I changed my theme to geekhack-simple. To change your theme:

Go to Profile > Account Settngs
Then go to Modify Profile > Look and Layout
Then click on (change) to select a different layout.

color schemes for themes are subjective, they only really matter imo, if they are very clashy such as red and yellow or blue and black, you know those color combinations that just make it impossible to read, otherwise, works just fine.

I'm a fan of the new look. The color scheme is pleasant and the contrasts are easy enough for the eyes. Lets keep it mostly text and less of that bloated useless styling from before.

Actually less text would be nice as well.

I don't really need an icon and a description for every button like "insert quote" and I don't need the thread title above each single post. How many replies there have been doesn't really seem like useful information either. The "logged" button could be removed as well as it doesn't seem to do anything useful for non-moderators.

I think the interface is a bit crowded.

please include more themes and let the user choose.
bonus points if the theme's are CSS based that allow the layout to change.

and the logo at the top could be better. maybe make it like Deskthority where the background changes alot.

That's what I thought, too, maybe it's due to the time spent at Deskthority... so, I made this quick and dirty Simple UI userstyle. Now threads look like this:

There are also links to some greasemonkey scripts in the description to further simplify the UI.

So there you go. This is like the 3rd thread I'm posting this in, so I'm going to stop now. Already feels like spamming.

The site was hacked thanks to a security flaw in the old forum software. So they took the opportunity to switch to better forum software.
